This week, Ohio State dropped from 7th to 16th, despite the fact that the Buckeyes won their game.

Last week, Ohio State was ranked 5 places higher, and received 86 more votes, than Virginia Tech. This week, VPI is one spot and five votes better than OSU. Must have been the Hokies impressive 17-10 win over powerhouse East Carolina.

As a group, we must be all over the place in our rankings. Two teams with more first place votes than the first place team? I guess everyone must have Alabama 1 or 2.

Ohio State was ranked too high last week. I only dropped us one spot from last week.

I dropped Va Tech two spots from last week, so it sure wasn't me.

How many different ballots do we have between weeks 1 and 2? Some of the changes seem rather drastic.

I dropped the Buckeyes on my ballot, from #10 to #16. However, I also dropped Virginia Tech two spots, and kept them one spot behind the Buckeyes. I've moved a bunch of teams down or out for lackluster wins already. In Week 1 I dropped Sparty, only to move them back up a tick this week. Texas and Clemson were unimpressive this week, and I removed them from my ballot entirely.

To whoever is putting M*ch*g*n on their ballot - I still don't understand it. I say this every year, but I'm not voting for them until they do something that they didn't do last year.

Penn State is still on my ballot, and only moved down slightly. I already had Alabama ranked much higher and thought they were better than Penn State. More than anything, the loss confirmed my opinion of them heading into the game. I did move them down, but I try not to punish teams too much for losing to higher ranked opponents - especially early in the season.

I didn't want to put Auburn on my ballot, but I got to the last spot an it came down to them or Mississippi State. Auburn got the vote since they won the game.

Putting Boise ahead of us made me sick, but I am hoping Toledo can change that perception Friday night.

I dropped us but I also dropped VPI several spots for their narrow victory...I actually had them ranked much higher. I moved MSU back up a few after allowing only 1 first down this week...that's impressive, no matter who you play. South Carolina jumped, that's about it for mine.

Well, I suppose I am the primary cause of Ohio State's big drop. I obviously had tOSU far too high at 6 last week. I thought going into the year that with Nebraska's offensive woes the second half or so of last season and Martinez's inability to throw the ball with any kind of consistency, and with Wisconsin's losses along the offensive line, that Ohio State, despite all the turmoil, would be the team to beat in the Big Ten. What I saw on Saturday was a team that got beat for most of the game in the trenches (both offensive and defensive), shaky quarterback play, questionable coaching decisions, a field goal kicker that simply cannot be relied on, and, in general, a lack of playmakers. Couple all this with the uncertainty surrounding the program right now, and maybe I'm being too critical, but the team that I saw on Saturday could very easily lose 4 games this season, which puts them right around the #20 mark in the polls. Toledo is a solid club, but we'll play better teams as the year goes on, including in the weeks to come before we get Adams, Posey, and Herron back.

To address LJB's question about VaTech, they also struggled and I therefore dropped them a spot, but they were playing on the road against a pretty decent East Carolina team that, for a half the week before, put a scare in the team I expect to win the SEC East. Not to mention the fact that, despite the score, VaTech's defense held East Carolina to -15 yards on the ground and just 112 yards of total offense. That's a better performance than what I saw out of the Buckeyes at home on Saturday. Really though, my poll will be quite fluid for the first 5 weeks or so and, right now, I don't see a big difference between, say, teams 15-23 in my poll.

To me, the most shocking thing about the week 2 poll was seeing someone still giving votes to Iowa. Huh? Did someone miss them getting beaten by Iowa freaking State?
