For the past several weeks, I have been ranking the teams based on the following formula:

+2.0 points for a victory over a top 10 team
+1.5 points for a victory over another ranked team
+1.0 points for a victory over a BCS team
+0.5 points for a victory over another FBS team
+0.0 points for a victory over a FCS team
-0.5 points for a loss to a top 10 team
-1.0 points for a loss to another ranked team
-1.5 points for a loss to a BCS team
-2.0 points for a loss to another FBS team
-2.5 points for a loss to a FCS team

01. Alabama (11.5 points)
02. Florida (8.5 points)
03. Georgia Tech (8.5 points)
04. Texas (8.0 points)
05. Cincinnati (7.5 points)
06. Iowa (7.0 points)
07. Oregon (7.0 points)
08. Southern Cal (6.5 points)
09. Texas Christian (6.0 points)
10. Louisiana State (5.5 points)
11. Pittsburgh (5.5 points)
12. Ohio State (5.0 points)
13. Miami (5.0 points)
14. Boise State (5.0 points)
15. Houston (4.0 points)
16. Wisconsin (3.5 points)
17. Penn State (3.5 points)
18. Virginia Tech (3.5 points)
19. Oklahoma State (3.5 points)
20. Utah (3.0 points)
21. Brigham Young (3.0 points)
22. South Florida (2.5 points)
23. Stanford (2.5 points)
24. West Virginia (2.5 points)
25. Auburn (2.0 points)

In early weeks, my ballot was pretty out of whack (Texas in the mid-teens, for example), but currently it is pretty close to the BP poll and the "real" polls. I am still the outlier on the following teams:

Georgia Tech (highest by 1)
Iowa (highest by 1)
Texas (lowest by 1)
Ohio State (lowest by 1)
Arizona (only voter who didn't rank them)

The "problem" is that the ranking that I am currently using is the ranking at the time that the game was played. Thus, Oregon gets credit for beating two top-10 teams (USC and Cal) because both were in the top ten at that time, even though USC might finish the season out of the top ten, and Cal will likely end up unranked. Therefore, at the end of the year, I will adjust the values by averaging the rank at the time that the game was played (the snap shot) with the ranking at the end of the season (the movie), and I will also subtract a quarter point for each win over a team with a losing record.

Just thought that you might be interested in a different way to vote, a simple "computer model" that takes the emotion out of the process.

i'm sitting this week out.

i can not possibly submit a poll that is even close to being unbiased in the wake of this past weekend's games.

so rather than dilute y'all poll with my personal agenda, i'll just sit back and watch for a week.

Why is BYU ranked at all?

Their biggest win was 14-13 over 5-4 Oklahoma, they lost by 26 to 4-5 Florida State (at home) and TCU beat them by 31 (at home). The rest of their wins are over garbage.

If they are ranked towards the bottom, what team has a significantly better pedigree? There are lots of 6-3 teams in BCS conferences that are shit too (I think the ACC has like 30).

How about Stanford, who isn't ranked in the BP poll, versus 23rd ranked BYU?

The Cardinal are 6-3, their losses were all on the road to teams who are 19-11, overall, by a total of 22 points.

The Cougars are 7-2, their losses were both at home, one by 26 points to 4-5 Florida State and the other by 31 to TCU.

Yeah, I had Stanford in my poll. South Florida, Oregon State, Clemson...these teams are more the ones I was talking about. I don't think I could say that either would definitely beat BYU.
