It's now closer to what the regular polls will look like (I fill mine out before looking at what the AP or the Coaches do). The big exception is Oklahoma State, who I have as unranked, since Houston beat them, Oklahoma State's win over Georgia has been devalued, and even though Houston has a bad loss to UTEP, they have wins over 3 decent BCS teams: at Okie State, Texas Tech, and at Miss St.

1) Florida -- Tough win in the Bayou is their signature win thus far
2) Alabama -- Only team to beat Va Tech
3) Virginia Tech -- Only team to beat Nebraska, Miami, and now BC
4) Texas -- Weak schedule drops them to 4th, could get signature win next week
5) USC -- Not sold on, but great wins on the road against OSU & Cal
6) Ohio State -- Has to rely too much on their D & ST to be considered any higher than this
7) Miami (FL) -- Has played arguably the hardest schedule thus far with 1 loss
8) Boise State -- Only team to beat Oregon, but rest of schedule is the definition of weak
9) Iowa -- Only team to beat Penn State, but looks very beatable (plays down to competition)
10) Oregon -- Has looked dangerous since week 1 loss to Boise State
11) Cincinnati -- Still looking for that signature win
12) Nebraska -- the team to beat in the Big 12 North
13) LSU
14) TCU -- Hasn't played anybody (best win is squeaking by Air Force last week)... plays BYU in 2 weeks
15) Oklahoma State
16) Penn State -- Schedule is laughable... probably should be ranked lower, but I think they're better than everyone else behind them right now
17) Georgia Tech
18) Auburn
19) Kansas -- Next week will be the highest they'll be ranked for the rest of the year
20) Oklahoma -- Desperately need to beat Texas
21) South Florida -- Huge matchup next week against Cincy for Big East title implications
22) South Carolina
23) Wisconsin -- Played us tough, gets huge home game against Iowa next week and could surprise
24) Central michigan
25) Utah

Dropped out of rankings: Missouri (20), Stanford (22), Boston College (24)
New to rankings: Georgia Tech (17), Central michigan (24), Utah (25)

Biggest gains: 9+ - Georgia Tech (NR to 17), 5 - Oregon (15 to 10), Boise State (13 to 8), & Nebraska (17 to 12)
Biggest drops: 9 - Auburn (9 to 18), 6 - LSU (7 to 13), 5+ Missouri (20 to NR), 4 - Wisconsin (19 to 23) & TCU (10 to 14)

  1. Florida
  2. Alabama - I've been tempted like many to move them up not just past Texas, but to No. 1 even. I think they've been consistently excellent to the extent that it's reasonable to think that they're every bit as good or better than Florida this year. For now though I'm giving the defending champs the benefit of the doubt.
  3. Texas - Texas was in that same conversation with Alabama, until they laid an egg in the first half against Colorado. If they handle Oklahoma impressively people will forget about that.
  4. Virginia Tech
  5. USC
  6. Ohio State
  7. Miami (FL)
  8. Nebraska - I hinted last week that I might be inclined to move them past Miami if they showed well against Missouri. In the fourth quarter they looked pretty good. In the previous three quarters, not so much. The weather was crap, but they took the crappiness up a notch for about 45 minutes before turning it on like a top-10 team should.
  9. Iowa
  10. Cincinnati
  11. Texas Christian
  12. Penn State
  13. Oklahoma - I know I said last week that I may not have dropped them far enough for their two losses. They are the only two-loss team that I even have ranked. Their two losses have come to two good teams though, and by a combined two points without their defending Heisman-winning QB. I know there are usually two approaches to these polls that seeming are in opposition to each other - the resume argument vs. the neutral field argument. I think this is where they intersect. I think that as we approach the halfway point in the season for many teams we can start to make the neutral field argument based on what the teams have done on the field so far this year. As I do that with Oklahoma and look at the teams below them on this list, I still find it hard to justify moving them any lower than this.
  14. Louisiana State - I have them ranked at about the same place I did last week, even though they lost. First of all, I'm declining to punish them for losing to a top ranked team that they were clearly not favored against. Second of all, I just like to think that I was right all along in seeing how they performed against the likes of Washington, Vanderbilt & Mississippi State.
  15. Boise State - still not going anywhere for me.
  16. South Carolina
  17. Oregon
  18. Kansas
  19. Oklahoma State
  20. Georgia Tech
  21. South Florida
  22. Wisconsin - I think the Buckeyes can make otherwise good teams look THAT bad.
  23. Missouri - controlled a good team for three quarters in conditions that really hamper their brand of offense. Can't punish them too much.
  24. Utah - Their only loss so far - at Oregon by a TD - isn't looking as bad as it once did.
  25. Notre Dame - I had to hold my nose on this one, but what are the other options here? An Auburn team that just got blown out? The West Virginia team that lost to that Auburn team? A BYU team that got blown out at home by a lousy Florida State team? A Houston team that spit the bit against UTEP? A Cal team with two blowout losses? An Ole Miss team on a two-game losing streak? M*ch*g*n? () My only comfort is that this won't last very long.
