Just curious about you ranking Penn State higher than Iowa....given that Iowa are undefeated and beat Penn State at Happy Valley.

Well, I guess I would have to say that, despite the loss to Iowa, at home, I can't take one game into account in the grand scheme of things. I believe that Penn State's offense is probably a little better than that game. Meanwhile, I perceive Iowa to be a bit of an over-achiever this year. Granted their D is very good, but they haven't really shown me a lot on offense. I guess that you can argue that they do what they need to do to win, much the same as the 2002 OSU offense, but having watched the game between PSU and UI, it seems more that PSU couldn't get out of their own way, and lost it, rather than Iowa winning it in any sort of convincing fashion. Truth is, I put them both in the same category as probably 5 other teams, but someone has to be ranked a little higher and a little lower. Overall, I think that if they played 10 times, PSU would win the majority of those games. Not saying my way of doing things is the best way, but it is a way....

i'm not scared of either Florida or Bama after the last few weeks.

Bama appears to be on borrowed time. Their day is coming (hopefully Nov. 7)
Florida hasn't looked like Florida since halftime of the Kentucky game.
Don't know if Jesus is still hearing bells or not, but something ain't right. Dam I want one more shot at these guys

I realize Big Ten football isn't held in high regard down on the bayou but I think Iowa is worthy of being somewhere in the top 25.

I have to think Oregon isn't getting enough love, considering their only loss was on the road to a team ranked higher than them, and it was their first game with a new head coach and all that.

I guess everyone is waiting for the game hosting USC?

I think it's more a product of how dreadful they looked against Boise, which is probably the only game most of the BP voters have seen them play. They didn't look like a top 50 team much less a top 10 team that night.

#12 isn't so bad. I had them at 11, ahead of Penn State. I don't see how they can be any higher than 10. I find it almost impossible to rank a team that lost to somebody that's still undefeated above that undefeated team, and I don't think Boise State belongs in the top 7.

If Oregon beats USC, it will be interesting to see how voters handle the Boise State and Oregon rankings.

Makes sense if people only saw them in the Boise State game... I would imagine it would be a huge surprise to see them win every game since then with that mindset though. And some pretty convincingly as well.

Oh well. Hope the Ducks return to their poor form on Saturday

Who have they beaten? Cal? Yeah, the drubbed them, but then again, Cal went all Cal for 2 or 3 weeks. I can't see why the would be at the top of the one loss heap at the moment, though they have looked pretty good the past month or so.

FWIW, I have Oregon at #12 on my ballot this week, and I have them ranked ahead of Boise State. Here's been my line of thinking so far:

  • The game with Boise State stunk. Oregon was very bad. Boise State was not quite as bad. After that, I didn't anticipate ranking either team at any point the rest of the year. Oregon looked awful and BSU didn't have anybody else of note on their schedule after that.
  • I did also see Oregon beat Utah. They won against a decent team, but still didn't look all that good in my mind. I continued to leave them off my ballot.
  • Blowing out Cal changed everything. I know Cal always spits the bit the instant the spotlight moves on to them, but it was an eye opener for me nonetheless with respect to Oregon. After that, I put them on my ballot, and held my nose in also putting Boise State on my ballot for the first time, ranked just ahead of Oregon. I didn't think Boise State was a Top 25 team at that point, but if I was going to rank Oregon, BSU had to come too.
  • Things changed again with Boise State's struggles with Cal-Davis & Tulsa. To me that justified Oregon moving ahead of them in the rankings. A lot has changed since that first game of the season.
  • Having just looked back at my ballot, I can definitely see the argument for ranking Oregon higher. A lot of teams in this mix have a common opponent: Washington. Oregon, USC & LSU all played them in Seattle. Oregon won in a blowout. USC lost. LSU barely escaped. Oregon's performance at Boise lingers for me though. Fortunately there's this week's game and the rest of the season to sort this out.
  • If Oregon wins in any fashion against USC, they'll move way up on my ballot - perhaps into my top 5.
