I will take a whack at this poll first if I can get this off. PSU and #2 is ridiculous in my mind. Sure, they beat our beloved Buckeyes but do you guys really think they could beat Oklahoma, Southern Cal, Florida, Georgia. I just don't think so. Those teams defenses are just as good as ours and their offenses are much more advanced. I just don't see it happening but that's just my opinion.

I think we will see what Texas Tech is made of this weekend but I don't think they should be at #7. They have one hell of a passing game but have no running game to speak of and I believe a team with a pretty good defense and running game can shut them down. I know they are undefeated but that doesn't carry a whole lot of weight with me. I am voting for the best teams.

Utah beat Michigan by two points the first game of the season and they are still living on that victory. I don't see any of the Mountain West teams beating Ohio State, Missouri, LSU and maybe even Minnesota or Florida State. I will grant you that they are undefeated but they just do not have the athletes to stay with some of the teams that are ranked below them.

I don't know why Brigham Young is still in the top 20 because they are beating marginal teams by very marginal scores. Also, South Florida is living on its early-season laurels also. I don't have either one of them in my top 25. Tulsa is another team that probably would get whacked by other teams beneath them and probably some other teams outside the top 25. I think Kansas is a top 25 team. They are just in a very good conference.

I know it is a crap shoot from 20-25 so it really doesn't matter too much but those Mountain West teams ranked so high just bothers me. I think many of the teams ranked below them will win three out of four games against them on a neutral site.

The above is just my humble opinion.

Here is my poll, with where I had each team last week included.

1. Texas (1)
2. Alabama (2)
3. Penn State (3)
4. Texas Tech (5)
5. Florida (7)
6. Oklahoma State (4)
7. USC (6)
8. Oklahoma (8)
9. Georgia (11)
10. Utah (10)
11. Missouri (14)
12. Ohio State (9)
13. Boise State (13)
14. LSU (12)
15. TCU (19)
16. Ball State (16)
17. Tulsa (17)
18. Minnesota (18)
19. Florida State (NR)
20. BYU (20)
21. North Carolina (24)
22. Michigan State (NR)
23. Maryland (23)
24. Oregon State (NR)
25. Virginia (NR)

I didn't move Penn State at all. I don't think they have a better resume than Alabama. Alabama's win against Georgia is more impressive than Penn State's win against Ohio State...and besides that win, Penn State really doesn't have any other quality wins. Texas Tech looks solid. They really may give Texas a run for their money. It will be interesting to see how high the scoring goes. Flordia is looking strong, I think they are going to end the season with 1 loss. They, are in my opinion, the best 1 loss team right now. Oklahoma State looked great against Texas. They looked just about how a #5 team should look against #1...maybe even a little better. USC always struggles with Arizona, but USC just isn't consistant enough in my opinion to be in the top 5, but I still think they are stronger than Oklahoma. Georgia is back in the top 10. They are starting to look great, just in time for the matchup with Florida. And Utah rounds out my top 10. Utah is the only non BCS team I have above us. I do have Mizzou above us. They've looked better this year imo. After TCU I really think the talent drops off severly. And I still am not completely sold on TCU. I think any of the top 15 teams would be double digit favorates against any of the 16-25 teams. As you can see, the BP poll has the same top 15 as my poll does. Florida State makes a big jump from unranked to 19th. They have had a good sesaon. So has Minnesota. I was the only guy in the poll who had Maryland ranked last week, I kept them at 23, but now I see others in BP are ranking them too. Oregon State and Virgina. Well they each have 3 losses, yes. But they have played the two hardest schedules IMO...and have beaten some really good teams. I think they deserve it more than a 2 loss team who hasn't had such a tough schedule. Virginia is actually starting to look decent.

There ya go. I like to stay transparent. I love this poll. I think it alawys looks much better than the AP or Coach's.

Is this poll just for Buckeye fans or can visiting posters also contribute?

Everyone seems to consistently have my Dawgs around #8.
We need this Florida game somethin' fierce.
Open to all on BP. I think it would be good to have a few non-Buckeye fans participating too. Send LordJeffBuck a PM with your email address and he'll [strike]sign you up for spam[/strike] send you a copy of the ballot.

TCU was my biggest mover, mainly because I had them under-ranked (didn't know much about them and did some research this week). 12 might be overranked for TCU but I couldn't put them behind OSU or LSU. I stretched to leave USF in at 25 but I couldn't find another "worthy" team and I'm not about to put Notre Dame in my top 25 yet.

Ahh shit, I knew I forgot to do something yesterday. :sad2:

I did it today, and here it is:

1. Penn State
2. Texas
3. Alabama
4. Texas Tech
5. Florida
6. USC
7. Oklahoma State
8. Georgia
9. Oklahoma
10. Ohio State
11. Missouri
12. Boise State
13. Tulsa
14. Florida State
15. LSU
16. Utah
17. Oregon
18. Minnesota
19. Michigan State
20. North Carolina
21. TCU
22. Ball State
23. BYU
24. Arizona
25. West Virginia

I realize it's blasphemous to have anyone other than Texas on top but they don't have a road win as solid as PSU's - Oklahoma was a neutral site, and the Sooners' defense sucks. OU has allowed 111 points their last 3 games.

Alabama got a big boost for beating Clemson early in the year, and we now know Clemson is, once again, clemson.

If Texas can win at Lubbock Saturday, they'll probably leap past the Lions in my poll. Tech, on the other hand, doesn't necessarily go #1 if they beat Texas. They're at home, and they are catching Texas at the best time. After three "big" games in a row, the Horns now have to go on the road for another one. That's a long month - will they have anything left?

Then again, will PSU come out flat at Iowa? We'll see.

So you hate the small conferences, I get that, but I don't follow the logic...if Texas Tech doesn't belong that high, how in the blue hell is Kansas (Rock, Chalk, asses clocked) a Top 25 team when they got beat by 5 TDs by TT and they also lost to South Florida, who is also overrated?

The logic regarding the "small conference" teams is that I just do not think that they can beat teams from major conferences consistently. I just did not think that they have the athletes to compete. I know it is not their fault that BCS schools will not play them but if they would play a more difficult schedule it would be a lot easier to judge them.

TT did just beat Kansas by 6 touchdowns.
Texas Tech would probably beat a vast majority of the teams in the country by 5+ TDs. I have Kansas at #20 and South Florida at #22. I agree that USF is overrated but I don't think there are a lot of other teams in the country that could beat them on a consistent basis. Below is my poll so have had it.

1 Texas
2 Penn St.
3 Alabama
4 Florida
5 Oklahoma
6 USC
7 Georgia
8 Oklahoma St.
9 Texas Tech
10 Ohio St.
11 Missouri
12 Utah
13 TCU
14 LSU
15 Boise St.
16 Minnesota
17 Ball St.
18 Michigan St.
19 Florida St.
20 Kansas
21 Connecticut
22 South Florida
23 California
24 BYU
25 Tulsa

This could be one crazy-assed year for the small conferences...it's possible that 4 teams (Ball State, Boise State, Utah, Tulsa) could run the table and finish unbeaten. I put the likely ones at 2 (Boise State, Tulsa) but if all 4 do, that will be really interesting to see the BCS standings.

I don't think they were climb much higher than they are currently because of the human factor involved in the polls. The computer is the one that is getting them where they are today. However, I can see a lot of complaining coming from those "undefeated" schools.

Rest assured, if multiples go undefeated, somebody is going to crash the BCS party. But I think the limit is 1...I doubt 2 would, and the MAC has absolutely no chance regardless.
