Not surprised at the top 10, but surprised at how high Penn State is ranked here. imo, GT is a better team than people think, but the true test will be VT. Miami beating them didn't shock me, as they had a bye week before the game and gave up 400+ yards the year before. I would believe they spent those two weeks dissecting every aspect of the Triple Op, and were going to force Nesbitt to throw the best game he's had. Going from 400+ the year before to under 100 yards this year telle me something about the time they spent on defending it. GT since then has played well and out up yards, defense may be suspect though. JMO.

I hate to pimp the SEC, but I don't know how Oklahoma State (lost by 10 at home to Houston, who just lost 41-58 to UTEP) and Penn State are ranked ahead of Auburn, who is undefeated and has a couple of decent wins.

Probably doesn't help that I forgot about Auburn in my poll. :whoops:

I wouldn't say they have any good wins yet. WVA has a good record, but they havn't beaten anybody themselves. OkSt at least beat Georga, who is a good team. Auburn will have plenty of opportunities to move up.

I am surprised Nebraska is 18. Only loss is miracle TD by VaTech.

I'm probably like many of the voters in that I'm not impressed by wins over Fla Atlantic (0-4), Arkansas State (1-3) and La-Lafayette (2-2).

Now if the Huskers were in the Sun Belt Conference, they'd be leading it at 3-0, so they've got that going for them. :wink2:

On the other hand, if they'd put a little more pressure on Tyrod Taylor in the last 30 seconds of that game, instead of just trying so hard to contain him behind the line, they'd probably be ranked 6th or 7th right now.

Some interesting notes about this poll:

LSU (#4) and VPI (#5) basically split the fourth-place votes (11 to 9), but LSU had 8 fifth-place votes to only 2 for VPI, and hence the Tigers finished 9 points ahead of the Hokies.

Boise State had at least one vote in every place from #4 to #16, but none outside of that range. Seems that voters can't figure out exactly where to place the Broncos.

Some people still like Oklahoma (#22) despite the two losses and wins over mega-cupcakes Idaho State and Tulsa; the Sooners had a 12th, a 14th, a 15th, and a 16th place vote ... but also were left off of seven ballots.

Two voters had nearly identical ballots - they had the same 25 teams; agreed on 11 teams (#1, #2, #3, #4, #8, #15, #16, #17, #21, #24, #25); were one place off six times; were two places off five times; and were four places off three times.

Which two BKBs was that? :paranoid:

  1. Florida
  2. Texas
  3. Alabama
  4. Virginia Tech
  5. USC
  6. Ohio State
  7. Miami (FL) - they move back up after a quality win over Oklahoma
  8. Nebraska - interesting that they are generally ranked behind Miami even though they had a better showing in losing to a common opponent (VT). The rest of their resume is lacking so far compared to Miami. That changes this week though when they face Mizzou.
  9. Iowa - Got punished - but only a little - for their showing vs. Arkansas State. I think from this point on there are a lot of teams not rushing to the front of the class.
  10. Cincinnati
  11. Texas Christian
  12. Penn State
  13. Auburn
  14. Louisiana State
  15. Oklahoma - After thinking about it some, I don't think I reacted strongly enough to their loss. They haven't put forth result worthy of a top-15 team. I look below them though and ask who is better?
  16. Boise State
  17. Kansas
  18. Oklahoma State
  19. Wisconsin
  20. South Carolina
  21. Oregon
  22. Missouri
  23. South Florida
  24. Georgia Tech
  25. Arizona

I don't know if I got mine in quick enough yesterday to get counted, but it looks like it really wouldn't be that close at all if not for me.

I was one spot outside that range - #16.

I addressed this above. I'm probably guilty of not following my philosophy of favoring the results on the schedule rather than projections. On the other hand, putting them below the likes of Kansas, Wisconsin, South Carolina, etc. just didn't pass the smell test for me.

Hmmmm....Oklahoma has two one-point losses, both away from home, playing without their Heisman winning QB. Some of the teams with better records ranked ahead of them would get their asses handed to them by OU, starting with PoSU, the Fredo Bearcats, and Okie State.

The misplaced Boise love continues after their tough win over mighty UC-Davis - TCU beat unbeaten Boise in their bowl last year, and would beat them again. Boise State in the top five is one of the funnier things I've seen.
