- Florida
- Texas
- Alabama
- Virginia Tech - They move up as high as I can take them right now for demolishing Miami
- USC - Some might be tempted to quietly slip them behind the Buckeyes now after only winning by three scores against Washington State. For years we've griped about voters moving the Buckeyes down when they've jumped out to a big lead against a poor team and then eased up and treated it like a scrimmage. I'm not about to do the same to them.
- Ohio State - With this defense, they can play with ANYONE.
- Oklahoma
- Iowa - I'm really impressed with their D-line. I punished them for barely beating UNI, but all is forgiven now.
- Nebraska - I'll admit I've overlooked them all year so far. It's looking more and more like this is the best team in the Big XII North, and their loss to Virginia Tech is looking not so bad.
- Miami (FL) - I think it'll be fashionable to beat up on this team after losing to Virginia Tech, but I think they're still a good team and would beat anybody I have listed below them.
- Houston - Wins vs. Texas Tech & Oklahoma State have impressed me. They should be the first mid-major in line right now, ahead of Boise State, TCU and Cincinnati.
- Cincinnati - Yes, I just called them a mid-major despite the fact that they are in a BCS conference. They have been good this year, but still have a lot to prove. Their inability to stop the run vs. Fresno State should worry UC fans, but they're probably oblivious to it.
- Texas Christian
- Penn State - They are still up this high because nobody below them seems to want it enough to move up.
- Auburn - Their offense is pretty good. Their defense stinks. How do you give up thirty points at home to a Ball State team that lost to North Texas?
- Louisiana State - I can't recall them looking like a good football team yet this season. They're here on the strength of somehow remaining undefeated.
- Boise State - I've had it out for these guys all season. After this week though I just can't justify it anymore. They have beat an Oregon team that just smoked Cal. Their win against Fresno State was equal to or better than what UC did against them. I also give them credit for coming east to play a game, even if it was only Bowling Green. I still plan to continue to punish them for their weak schedule.
- Kansas - decent offense, lousy defense
- Oklahoma State - see above
- Georgia - see above
- Wisconsin - the main question I have is how Bielema will screw this up.
- Brigham Young - Getting smoked by Florida State at home is looking even worse now, but their win over Oklahoma keeps them up here for now. We'll know more when they play the tougher teams in their conference.
- South Carolina - I really don't like putting them here, but they deserve it for now.
- Oregon - I vowed to banish them from my ballot after their stinker against Boise State unless they did something spectacular. Welcome back.
- Missouri - A team built on the passing game like Missouri has to do better than they did against a lousy pass defense like Nevada's.
