I know that the majority of you who have been following this poll are going to find this hard to believe but for once I am an almost total agreement with this poll except for the fact that I still think Missouri, Georgia, Oklahoma State, and probably even LSU could beat Utah or Boise State. I know they are undefeated so that probably do deserve their rankings.

I really don't understand how Utah slipped back into the top 25 and especially above California. How badly do you think USC would beat Utah?

I know that it is not the fault of Utah and Boise State that they do not get to play decent teams week after week but I also don't think that the teams who I think are better than them should be ranked below them.

I do have Florida as my second ranked team and Alabama is #5 behind Texas and Oklahoma. I just did not think that Alabama will beat Florida when they play head-to-head but at least that will be decided in the SEC Championship game.

I'm sure you meant these comments to be about 'Tulsa' rather than 'Utah'.

I may have set a record for number of teams dropped out of the top 25 collectively the past 2 weeks. I don't think any team from the Big Crap should be in the top 25, and the ACC shouldn't be in the top 20, but not enough other teams are playing well enough to keep them out. For the constant Boise and Utah bashers, no, I don't think they could beat Oklahoma...but then again, Boise did 2 years ago, and I think either could win either the ACC or Big East, maybe without dropping more than a game, so that would warrant their ranking in a lot more eyes than mine. Georgia, Missouri, and LSU have gotten ass-pasted by good teams...hard to see Utah or Boise doing worse than that.

As for Tulsa, I agree, I didn't have them this week either. They need to go 12-1 by winning the C-USA title game before I put them back in. Likewise, if Ball State doesn't run the table, I won't have a MAC team either probably, though Western looks pretty good.

I don't understand ranking Western ahead of Central, because of the head to head. Looking at the rest of the body of work, it's not much difference. Just the knee jerk reaction of Western beating Illinois, but I think Central could have won that game just as easily. Anyway it's hard to find a great #25 team...same with 24. But thsoe are the two that I feel are the strongest. Oregon State is actually moving up in my poll. Funny thing is, i've had them in my top 25 for awhile...but now people are catching on. Same with Cincy. I had Cincy ranked last week, and WV unranked. Guess Cincy helped prove me right there, nice road win for them. I don't know if Ball State is top 15 material...but they haven't lost, so why not. Gotta drop TCU down though, out of the Top 15. A mid major with 2 losses. They may be better than Ball State, but, they haven't lost, so I'm being nice. Finally I can put PSU right where I think they belong, one spot above us. And I think Florida is the best one loss team, by far, and Tech now looks like the best team in the country.

Western beat Illinois, Central couldn't beat Purdue...but otherwise I agree with you, though I had both in my top 35, but not my top 25.

I know everyone has their own methods for ranking teams and I feel like I should try to explain mine here. I try to take into consideration several factors when doing my rankings. Some of these factors include key wins, key losses, strength of schedule, how a team has looked overall, how they performed against opponents close to them in the polls (ie Texas beat Oklahoma so they are above them in the polls). While I do take into consideration whether or not X team could beat the teams behind them, I don't like to make that too much of a factor in my rankings. I know some people do and there is nothing wrong with that if that is they way you want to do it. I personally just like to rank teams based mostly on how they have performed and not how I think they could perform against Y team. Basically the biggest things I look at are "who did you beat and who did you lose to?"

I left Alabama at #1 and moved Tech up to #2 since Penn State lost. The reason Alabama is ahead of Tech is because Alabama has two great road wins, Tech has two great home wins. I want to see Tech win on the road against a great team *cough*Oklahoma*cough* before I put them at #1. I don't consider Kansas a great road win because I think it is pretty apparent now that they are not top 25 material. Tech's offensive line looks amazing. Nobody can get to Harrell. It definitely looks like Tech has corrected their two biggest weaknesses, their run game and their defense. If they run the table I don't see how you couldn't give the Heisman to either Harrell or Crabtree. I just hope they don't split votes and neither of them ends up getting it.

Now on to the one loss teams. I basically shifted everyone up one spot since Penn State lost. Oklahoma and Texas have the two "best loses" so they are at #4 and #3 respectively, Texas getting the edge of course because they beat Oklahoma. Oklahoma's defense worries me greatly. I think they can probably be characterized as below average. If they can't get to Harrell, it could be a long day for the OU defense. Florida gets the nod again over USC, even though I think Florida has the "worst loss." As I stated last week, USC has the best defense in the country, but their offense is inconsistent. They showed that this week against Cal. It's not in sync on a week to week basis. I wouldn't necessarily say they would lose to everyone ahead of them, because with a defense that good anything could happen, but you never know which offense is going to show up. I thought at the beginning of the season that they were too inexperienced at the skill positions on offense to compete for a national title and it's looking like I was correct. I don't have Florida at the #3 spot because I feel they should be punished for losing to an unranked team at home. There is no possible way I can ignore that, no matter how good they have looked lately. Penn State gets the last spot of the "elite" one loss teams.

I put OK State above us because I still feel this is a great football team. They lost to two top five teams on the road. Both of the teams they lost to have pretty good chances of being national champions this year. We lost to two great teams that have some question marks and may end up seeing each other in the Rose Bowl. I put Utah at #11. I think this is a very good football team. They have three great wins against Oregon State, TCU, and @ Air Force. This team has played excellent defense all year. I wouldn't want to play them in a BCS game. Boise State is right below them. Their only key win is on the road against Oregon, who I happen to think is a pretty good football team. I said last week that if LSU couldn't deliver against Alabama then I would have to drop them. They played good enough to prevent me from absolutely tanking them, but they still dropped quite a few spots. They don't have a decent QB. That has been a big problem for this football team. Perriloux screwed them out of what could have been an excellent season. New additions to my poll include Florida State, Cinci, South Carolina, and Air Force. Florida State has been in and out of my poll a few times this season. Not really sure what to make of them because to be honest I haven't seen them play. Cinci won a game against a great conference foe in WVU. Brian Kelly has done a great job with this program. Hats off to the athletic director who hired both Dantonio and Kelly. Good hires. A big program should snag this AD quickly. South Carolina fell off my radar earlier in the season, but they have been playing well enough to get into a lot of peoples top 25, including mine. After the collapse last year, it's good to see them rebound and become bowl eligible. Rounding out my top 25 is Air Force. They are 7-2 with their only losses being back to back close ones against Utah and a very good Navy team. They have rattled off five straight wins since their loss to Navy. They close out their season with two tough games against BYU and @ TCU. If they win those, they finish second in a very good Mountain West conference.

I was skeptical of Tech earlier because I had seen them start strong before only to get whupped when the big boys come to town. Not only did they beat Texas, but they destroyed Okie State, who had won at Missouri and taken Texas to the wire in Austin. If the Raiders can actually win in Norman, they'll be playing for the NC in January.

I have Boise and Utah in the top ten, for now, but if the teams directly behind them win out I can see the mid-majors slipping some spots.
