Well, I am now convinced that Texas Tech is for real. Although I still think they have question marks on defense, so it's #3 until they get past at least OSU and possibly OU, depending on how Alabama and Penn State play this weekend. I've seen this kind of thing too many times to jump on the bandwagon just yet. A certain team lights up the scoreboard all year in their conference and then looks very pedestrian when playing against someone with defense. (Miami '02 is my favorite example.) Call me born and raised in Buckeye country, but I don't trust a team that relies so much on just offense. There's a reason they say the defense wins championships. Still I would say TT is in the drivers seat. If they win out, I think they jump PSU unless PSU goes back to just steamrolling everyone in their path. The Oklahoma St. Game should be good. OSU has a pretty good defense, from what I've seen so far.

tOSU will have to drop another game before the likes of Utah and Boise jump them. It appears the most voters here agree. This weeks game will be very telling about the character of this team. For most of these guys, it will be the first time they were not playing for a conference or national title on the line. Could be a tough pill to swallow. If they start feeling sorry for themselves at NW, we will get thumped.

A few weeks ago someone mentioned that I may have Florida too high. I don't think so now, they are playing the best football on the country right now. They just need to keep it consistant.

The above is my top 10. I really can't see posting the rest of my top 25 because it is just a crap shoot. I think Florida is the best team in the country and they, along with my first 8, would probably wax Penn State. I raised my teams as to how I think they would do against one another. I might have Oklahoma State a little high.

I really have a problem with Utah and the rest of the Mountain West. I just can't see putting them teams in my top 10 and I even think Missouri, Georgia, and Kansas would probably take care of them pretty easily. I still have Kansas in my top 20 because even though they got waxed by Missouri last week they put a beating on Kansas State which I do not think most other teams in the top 20 could do.

I think that some teams ranked from 11-25 would probably beat each other every other week. You really can't tell how good they really are.

You apparently have a different ranking philosophy than I do. It appears to be based primarily on who you think would beat who based on how teams look on the field, rather than rewarding teams for who they've defeated and penalizing them for their losses.

Florida=1, USC=4, Alabama=6, Georgia=7, and Penn State=9?

This may be closer to how Vegas would create point spreads for individual matchups, but I'm glad that most voters don't vote this way. For me, I don't care how great USC and Florida look most of the time, they have to be lowered significantly for their losses to unranked teams.

Also for me, Penn State and Alabama need to be rewarded for going undefeated. Penn State did blow out that team that beat USC, and Alabama did beat the team that won at Florida. Here's mine:

01 Alabama
02 Texas Tech
03 Penn St.
04 Texas
05 Oklahoma
06 Florida
07 USC
08 Oklahoma St.
09 Utah
10 Boise St.

You are correct in how I rank teams. I do not take their losses into consideration. I also think you have to remember that Penn State beat Oregon State in Happy Valley and it was close to the beginning of the season. Mississippi is not that bad of a team and so even though Florida lost to them by their performances against other teams that shows me that it was just a fluke. When it comes to one loss teams, I think you have to look at the other teams they have played so far and see how they played against them.

We just disagree. I don't think Penn State could beat one of the teams that I have an of them.

In looking at your poll and some of the other ones do you really think Utah and Boise State could beat Georgia or Ohio State.

I think they could, I'm not sure it's probable. But Boise won at Oregon wihch isn't easy, and Utah beat Oregon State, the team that beat USC. I think Boise will stay undefeated and deserve a top 10 ranking before the bowls. I expect Utah to lose and drop from the top 10, but I won't drop them until they lose.

But it's mainly the difference in ranking philosophy - I'm penalizing teams for losses. Georgia has been obliterated twice this year (down 31-0 at the half to Bama at home, and down 49-3 on a neutral site to Florida last week). There's no way I can justify Georgia remaining in the top 10 after those 2 performances.

Can you further explain "I do not take their losses into consideration"; do you really ignore those games, and how can you justify that?

To be honest, I really forgot about the bad loss by Georgia to Alabama. However, I still think they are a top 15 team. I also think you know as well as I do that once a team starts to lose the score can really snowball. That is about the only team that I will "apologize" for but I still think they could beat Utah or Boise State.

I will agree with you that Oregon State and Oregon are pretty good teams but one game does not a season make.

When it comes to one loss teams, I do ignore their losses to a certain extent. I think if USC would play Oregon State 10 times USC would probably win 8-9 of them. I certainly have ignored the Florida loss to Mississippi. I also think Texas is probably better than Texas Tech but I just couldn't do that:)

I think that I have watched enough football over the years to know a pretty good team when I see one and like they say on any given day one team can beat another.

OK. We'll play all the games, ignore the losses, and at the end of the year let Vegas decide the National Champion instead of having a Title Game.

Just messin' with you. :wink2:

Here was my Top 25 for this week. I did this before the BCS Standings came out, but waited to send it in to compare. I was mildly surprised at how I and the BCS have tOSU ahead TCU. I think GTech is better than people give them credit for and after last weeks game, I had to keep Minny and NW ranked, they are playing really good football this year and have completely turned the programs around in a year. at abt 18-25 it gets fairly difficult to differentiate some of these teams. And yes I do have USC and OU tied, although OU loss is better, USC has crushed everyone since, minus Arizona, I just feel they are still an awesome football team, also because of Conference strength and a quality win, TTech jumps PSU for second, but this week will say alot about that team.

Alabama is my new #1, I don't think any explanation is needed there. Penn State and Tech are about even in my eyes. Tech had a couple of games against Nebraska and A&M that were closer than they should have been. The A&M game was within 7 points heading into the 4th quarter. Penn State has a great road win, Tech has a great home win. Hard to decide who to put #2 here. If Tech wins this weekend against OK State, they'll be my new #2. #4-8 was tough no doubt. Texas get the #4 spot because they had the "best loss." Oklahoma and OK State both lost to Texas, but Oklahoma has looked more impressive to me than OK State to this point. Florida at #7. I have to penalize them for losing to Ole Miss at home. The teams in front of them took care of business against the teams they should have easily beaten. Florida did not. They had absolutely no business losing that game. Championship teams beat the team's their suppose to beat. Florida didn't do that. USC at #8. They have the best defense in the nation by far, but their offense had sputtered in a few games. I think their loss to Oregon State was better than Florida's loss to Ole Miss, but I don't think they have played that consistently at times this season. Oregon State, Arizona, and even against Arizona State their offense sputtered. As I have said in past weeks, I would not be surprised if USC drops another game this season. I would find it hard to put them ahead of any of the teams in front of them that only have one loss. Georgia over LSU at 10 and 11. Georgia won their head to head matchup so that is why they are at 10. I think I might have LSU too high. Their offense worries me. We'll see what happens against Alabama this weekend. This is pretty much the last chance LSU has to show me anything. If they get blown out, their gonna drop big. TCU > Utah from what I have seen of both teams this season and I'm pretty sure TCU is going to prove it for sure this Thursday. GO FROGS!!!

I'm not going to really explain the rest of the rankings because it is kind of a crap shoot from there. Florida State and Cincinnati were knocking on the door of the polls at #26 and #27 respectively. I think Cincinnati might be a very good football team. I could see them finishing the season ranked around 15 if they win out. They had an unexplainable sputter against UConn a couple weeks ago, but I look for them to run the table. Impressive wins against WVU this weekend and Pitt later in the season could do wonders for them.

My first team I left out was West Virginia. Texas Tech went from 4th to 2nd on my ballot jumping Texas which is obvious, and Penn State, which I also think is obvious. A win against Texas is a much better win than one against Ohio State. Like i've said before. The top 15 is so much better than the bottom 10 of the top 25. I KNEW that the teams I had in my top 15 would be in the top 15 of this poll. It's just such a big jump from 15 to 16. Missouri and Boise drop a little. They just haven't been as good lately. When teams are so close, you have to be picky and look at "what have you done for me lately". If Ohio State doesn't look good this weekend, I could see dropping them as well. Florida and USC are the best one loss teams, and them, along with Texas Tech are playing the best football in the country. Alabama is number one though, because they have the toughest schedule of any unbeaten, and beating the teams they have beaten, without losing, is good enough for me. Also, I'm not a huge Cincinnati fan...but I think they deserve to be ranked, and I think when all is said and done, they will be Big East champions.
