BP Growth vs. BN Growth

That's cuz there's very little tradition in pro football... outside of Green Bay and maybe a select few other places, pro fans are not nearly as nostalgic.

You're right, its just an OSU thing. Oh wait, no. I'm guessing all those southern bands that have an R&B/Hiphop feel to them pay all of the fans to sway/bounce to the music.

Maybe you just can't understand something you don't have. Kind of like your confusion about winning vs. SOS.

To be completely honest IMO so is you guys obcession with your band ...

Well maybe you are all geeks hmmmmm!

There is a reason the NFL does not have marching bands! Because the average football fan could give a crap.

Cheif- Have you ever heard the phrase, "Sometimes honesty is not the best policy?"... this is one of those times.

I must admit, I'm not the biggest fan of marching bands. That is, you won't hear me talking about how great one band is compared to another. But, I can't sit here and say that when the game is about to begin, and the band comes out and does its thing that I don't get amped up. Bands are one of the things that makes College Football what it is. Furthermore, recognizing that the Band is part of the game day expierence, there is no reason why any particular school should not try and be the best - under whatever criteria that kind of thing is messured. Ohio State's love affair with the band is just evidence of how everything football is king around here. Hell, we'd have the best damn waterboy in the land too if it came to that. Why? Cause if it's affilaited with the football team, it will be supported.

As vast as ND's fan base is, I'm surprised you guys don't take your band more seriously. On the other hand, I'm thinking a good deal of ND fans have never been to a ND game, so they don't know what it's all about.

dude, you're ignorance is embarrassing ME...

first of all, there used to BE marching bands in the NFL back in the day, but Rock n Roll took over, as well, as Television... no surprise that the NFL wants to pipe in 'Welcome to the Jungle' after every tackle...

second, the Marching Band is a TRADITION, which i am surprised that you, being an Irish fan, seemingly have no sense of...

third, i HIGHLY suggest that you go visit a football game at a small southern school some time in the very near future... say, maybe Florida A&M... the competition between the two bands supercedes the competition between the two football teams...

CHIEF, I was going to warn you via PM, but this needs to be known by all...you're stepping over the line here and are now flaming. Your next vacation will be permanent. This thread is about how this site has evolved and grown, not for you to belittle one of the finest traditions in college football. Step back, beath deep, and chill.

As I said in my PM to you, you can can talk some smack about football and shit, but when you call the entire board geeks and that we obsess about our band, then you're crossing the line. Maybe if Notre Dame had a band worth a shit, then you'd relate.

NDC, have you ever actually ATTENDED a college football game?
Exactly, I don't know that some of the other big ten school bands are good at all, but when they are in their home stadium, combined with the excitement about the upcoming kickoff, its pretty hard to not find the band to be an enjoyable part of the excitement. I'm very curious to hear the answer to lv's question...

well, i know that Indiana University has one of the best music programs in the country, so i'd imagine that they have some talent... in fact, i saw them perform during the Skull Session before the '02 tilt, and they were quite good- their drum corps is very entertaining... and TSUN has a very well respected music program as well... it stands to reason that some of that talent makes it's way onto the field, so to speak...

YES!! I have watched ND play probably 10 times including once at Purdue. Saw Purdue's drum and watched ND 's band march into the stadium thru the tunnel which was cool. Also can remember watching the dottting of the ' I ' in Script Ohio (on tv) as a kid when Archie played against Leach (i think) in the game.

I anxiously await the day I can take my 3 sons to an ND game as I will stand by the tunnel so they can see the bands arrival. It 's not like I dont enjoy and respect the band.....
