BP Fantasy Baseball (2008-2024, Current Champion = MD Buckeye again)

League is renewed. I'll be going through the settings and schedule based on what we've talked about here this offseason, so don't be surprised to see some changes. I want to get it all set well before the draft, so guys can prepare for it.

Everyone needs to get their list together of real world players they don't want to see injured and get it to me well before the draft.

If I don't have a list, and our agreed upon settlement, I'm drafting them and they are fucked.

Govern yourselves accordingly.

Draft as many Cubs, Yankees, Dodgers, and Red Sox as your heart desires. Oh, and take that pest Billy Hamilton.

You can say that again. I have 12 new emails for every settings change made today. You are going to have to summarize these changes. From what I saw, I like the elimination of the divisions, but am not a fan of the net stolen base category.

You should change your notifications as I'm not done yet. Once the 10th spot is filled I'll be looking at the schedule. I moved the playoffs up a week, as requested. I've also allowed for more moves but added categories that can work against streaming, if you're not careful. Still kept all of the meat & potatoes categories, though.

What's your beef with net steals? A guy getting caught stealing hurts his team. If two guys have 20 steals and one guy has been nailed twice as often are they really the same?

Maybe I am just too used to knowing what to look for and target for stolen bases. You know, go after the fast dudes. But now you are telling I have to look for the sneaky fast dudes that don’t get caught very often? That sounds like a lot of work.

Seriously though. I see your point, and yes getting caught stealing hurts your team. At some point all of the advanced analytics and saber-metric shit though does start affecting how I enjoy the sport. I want to be able to look at a box score and see that my boy Billy Hamilton had two steals and be happy about getting to count them and not having to worry about if he had any caught stealing attempts.

Are there net holds and net saves? By this logic a blown save as a reliever either is a lost hold or save which is hurting your team as well.

Net holds isn't available. Net saves are, but I decided against it because set up men get charged with blown saves even though they aren't going to be in the game in the 9th.

There's net (saves + holds), though. 8D

As for steals vs net steals, the top ten guys are the same top ten guys but it's no big deal to me if we leave as it's been in the past.

Full disclosure, I wanted to use Quality Starts instead of Wins but I figured there'd be a mutiny.

Guys pitch 5 sloppy innings and win because their team scored 10 runs while another dude goes 7 strong and loses 2-1. Quality starts are more about the pitcher and less about his team.

Can you add quality starts as a separate category? I like that idea.

I like the idea of quality starts as well. But I don’t like the idea of streaming your way to wins, quality starts, and K’s, especially if there is 25 transactions per week! I think I would be on board with both quality starts and wins more so than both k’s and k/9. I like k/9 because you actually have to have good pitching to win that category whereas k’s are more or less the most innings pitched in a week win. Quality starts are generally awarded to better pitching as well so that is a good category. If I had to decide between k’s and wins, I think I like wins more.

Thanks for changing steals. I know we are both overly opinionated on the topic, and I appreciate you giving this dog a bone.

The Ks/9 was added because of the increased moves. You have more flexibility, but just piling up Ks won't work if the ratio is bad. I like the idea of QS over Ks, because it does require good pitching rather than just more pitching. Of course, ERA and WHIP also negate just streaming for Ks.

Anybody else have an opinion? This is the time to talk. Nothing is "set" yet.
