BP Awards - 2010 Winners

The Troy

The closet vote among the player's awards this year was for the Troy, the BP Award for the nation's best quarterback. Congrats to Andrew Luck of Stanford for winning the Troy Award as the nation's best collegiate quarterback. The Heisman finalist (and potential NFL #1 Draft Pick) will now lead the Cardinal in the Orange Bowl against Virginia Tech.

The Big Daddy

Da'Quan Bowers of Clemson has been named as the the winner of BP's sixth annual Big Daddy Award (named after former Buckeye great "Big Daddy" Dan Wilkinson) as the nation's best collegiate defensive lineman. He was also the recipient of the Nagurski Award for 2010.

The Spielman

Congratulations to Greg Jones of Michigan State, who is the winner of BP's Spielman award as college football's best linebacker. Last year, he finished second in this category behind Rolando McClain. Jones will next face Alabama, McClain's former team, in the Capital One Bowl.

The Assassin

Congratulations to defensive back Patrick Peterson of LSU on being named as the winner of the Assassin Award this year, which takes its name from the nickname of legendary hitter Jack Tatum. Peterson also won the Thorpe Award as the nation's top DB, and the Bednarik Award as the nation's top defensive player.

The Skladany

Florida senior Chas Henry has been named the winner of the Skladany Award as the nation's best punter in 2010. He led the country in punting with a 46.4 average, and the Gators also led in net punting (41.8). Congrats to Chas on winning the Ray Guy Award, and on winning BP's sixth annual Skladany Award as the nation's best collegiate punter.

The Griffin Player of the Year

Voters selected Auburn quarterback Cam Newton as the winner of BP's Archie Griffin Player of the Year. We will find out tomorrow who wins the Heisman, but Newton has already won the Walter Camp POY Award, as well as the Maxwell Award for the nation's outstanding player, and the Davey O'Brien best QB Award.

Congrats to Cam Newton on being named the the winner of BP's sixth annual Griffin Award (named after the only man to win two Heisman Trophies), as the best overall player in collegiate football.

For the first time in 6 years, no Buckeye won a BP Award, but 3 made the All-American team.

It's an oddity that the player of the year is not on the All-American team, which is based on the voting for each position.
