Boycott Scotts Due to Smoking Policy

yeah, you're going to die sooner or later. eventually, something will kill you. It may be crossing the road, or driving to work. Smoking is something I choose to do. I work with a guy that chooses to stuff five McDonald's double cheeseburgers down every day at lunch. He washes it down with a 2 liter bottle of Mt. Dew. That will kill him...
Thank you.

Forget about banning smoking. Ban fast food. I guaran-fucking-tee that McDonald's french fries kills more people annually than cigarettes do.

What does Scott's plan to do after they tell their employee they cannot smoke? They cannot drink? They cannot dine out? They cannot eat more than 2000 calories a day or watch more than 90 minutes of television a day from a distance nearer than 9-12 feet from the TV?

It's obviously in Scott's best financial interest to oversee their employee's height, weight, vision care, and dental hygiene too. :roll2:

Don't assume that me asking this question means that I support the company's move, but are you saying that a company can't regulate one type of behavior unless it regulates every other similar type of behavior? When answering, assume that such regulation is legal and ethical, and that the only question is whether it has to be an all-or-none proposition or not.

Thomps, sorry, I was actually commenting to 27. No, I'm not saying that a company cannot regulate one unless it regulates all. I'm saying their reasoning is bullshit. Frankly, there is nothing unlawful about what Scotts is doing - smoking is not a fundemental right protected by the Constitution. Neither is drinking, for that matter.

27 - it's been said earlier (my internet was down for a while) smoking MAY kill you. You want to talk about brainwashed?

My mom died of cancer... she was a smoker. Smoking causes death. .. Oh... wait, she didn't die of lung cancer... and I doubt she was smoking with her ovaries.

My grandfather died once... he smoked. He didn't die from smoking.

Buddy of mine from college smoked...

Ran a stop sign and got hit by a dump truck full of gravel.

Smoking didn't get him.

Anyway... smoking is bad for you, no fucking doubt. But the bottom line is, its not keeping people from performing their jobs (at least not any less than this website:wink2: ).

Exactly.

I should note, nothing prevents a non-smoker from taking a "non-smoke" break and going for a quick walk. In fact, some times when I take a smoke break, a non-smoker goes with just to chitchat. Sometimes non-smokers hang out in my office for damn near 6 hours talking football... on occasion my boss joins.

You want to call me brainwashed? Go a whole week without smoking a cigarette. I know I can.
