Boston Red Sox (9x World Series Champions)

Yes it happened....

Ernie Shore once threw a quasi-perfect game ... after Babe Ruth punched an umpire

While there are 11 combined no-hitters in Major League history, I think we can safely say that the one tossed by Babe Ruth and Ernie Shore on June 23, 1917, is unlike any of the others.

Babe Ruth took the mound for the Red Sox against the Washington Senators and quickly got himself ejected. After walking the leadoff man, second baseman Ray Morgan, Ruth began jawing with the umpire, Brick Owens. According to the Boston Globe, Ruth thought the umpire had missed two strikes during the at-bat and told him to "Open your eyes and keep them open." After the ump threatened to eject Ruth if he didn't be quiet and get back to pitching, Ruth yelled, "You run me out and I will come in and bust you on the nose."

Sure enough, Ruth was ejected and the fracas was on. I'll let the newspaper tell the story:

"Then in rushed Ruth. Chester Thomas tried to prevent him from reaching Owens, who had not removed his mask, but Babe started swinging both hands. The left missed the arbiter, but the right struck him behind the left ear.

Manager Barry and several policemen had to drag Ruth off the field. All season Babe has been fussing a lot. Nothing has seemed to satisfy him."

Red Sox Cheating Scandal Highlights Apple Watch’s Illicit Use

Commercials for the Apple Watch show people swimming, running, climbing, jumping. But the watch can also be used, it turns out, for another activity: cheating.

The Boston Red Sox were caught by baseball’s authorities in a scheme to use the Apple Watch to steal signs from New York Yankees catchers.

Investigators confirmed accusations by the Yankees that a Red Sox trainer used his Apple Watch to receive messages from the team’s video room about upcoming pitches, and then passed those messages to the dugout, where they were signaled to teammates on the field.

Sign-stealing is a time-honored baseball tradition — as long as only eyesight is used. Visual aids and technology — including walkie-talkies, cameras and Apple Watches — are not allowed.

Now it is the Red Sox, do all professional sports teams in Boston cheat?

Father says David Ortiz has been shot, wounded

Former Boston Red Sox slugger and Dominican star David Ortiz was shot and wounded at an entertainment center in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, his father told ESPN's Enrique Rojas.

"They called to tell me that David is injured and that they took him to a medical center, but they did not tell me how he is or exactly where he was transferred," Leo Ortiz said via telephone from the Dominican Republic.

"At the moment, everything is confusing. I'm trying to find out where they took my son," Ortiz's father added.

According to a report from Dominican TV station CDN 37, Ortiz was shot in the leg.
