The Buckeyes have added crucial depth to its offensive line in this cycle.
After a few weeks of negative trends surrounding Ohio State’s 2025 recruiting class — despite its No. 1 ranking nationally — the Buckeyes finally got some good news this weekend in the form of a new offensive line commitment.
On Saturday, four-star lineman Jayvon McFadden announced his pledge to Ohio State.
A Maryland native, McFadden currently ranks as the No. 25 IOL in the country and No. 11 player out of his home state, per the 247Sports Composite. The 6-foot-5, 300-pound blocker held around 30 offers, but cut his list down to just four schools ahead of his decision. The Buckeyes won out over Colorado, Maryland and South Carolina. Ohio State was the only school McFadden took an official visit with.
McFadden has been to Columbus several times during his recruiting process, having been on campus for the Michigan State game last season when he first received his Ohio State offer. McFadden returned earlier this year for the Buckeyes’ spring game, and was last in town for his official visit on June 7. Some thought the lineman would pull the trigger and commit on that trip, but he instead elected to take his time with his decision before ultimately choosing Ohio State this past weekend.
Listed as an interior lineman, McFadden has played both guard and tackle for Riverdale Baptist, but likely projects as a guard at the next level. However, with his size there is a chance he could perhaps get some run at tackle depending on his development. Either way, he gives Ohio State another valuable piece along the offensive line in this current cycle alongside Carter Lowe and Jake Cook.
McFadden’s commitment gives the Buckeyes 25 total commits in their 2025 class, maintaining the lead as the nation’s top group. However, Ryan Day and his staff will continue to try and further add to the total. In addition to locking down their current cast of commits through signing day, Ohio State will also be trying to pull off a few flips down the stretch for guys like running back Anthony Rogers and offensive lineman Micah DeBose at Alabama and defensive tackle Malik Autry at Auburn, among others.

Quick Hits
- Four-star 2025 wide receiver target Phillip Bell has cut his list down to just two schools, and will choose between Ohio State and USC on Aug. 31. The California native ranks as the No. 19 WR and No. 184 overall prospect per the 247Sports Composite. The lone Crystal Ball prediction for Bell is in favor of USC, but that was cast in April 2023, while On3 currently gives an edge to the Buckeyes. We will likely see some predictions start to roll in one way or another as the decision gets closer, but at any rate Ohio State will learn its position in less than a week.

- A handful of Ohio State’s commitments were in action over the weekend as the high school football season gets underway, including five-star quarterback Tavien St. Clair. The top player in Ohio put on a clinic in Bellefontaine’s season opener, scoring six total touchdowns — four passing and two rushing — with 295 yards passing and 70 yards on the ground in his team’s 48-21 win over Sidney. It was an expectedly fantastic senior debut for one of the best overall prospects in the country.
