I wish I didn't share that sentiment. One of my nephews recently committed suicide and my sister will probably never be the same and it's taking it's toll on all of us.

Unfortunately, those who choose suicide often see it as doing their loved ones a favor. Sounds crazy because it is crazy.

It's hard to imagine the sense of despair one has to feel to believe death is their best option. Then the survivors have to live with the unanswered question of "why?" the rest of their lives.

Just a sad story all around. :(

My best friend of twenty years committed suicide ten months ago. In poor health, and having lost his business and about to lose his home, his suicide brought about significant insurance policy proceeds to the family that eliminated the money worries for his wife's life, and provided for all of his kids needs as well, including college. While horribly misguided, I can see the "why" through the prism of his cracked lens.

I never have understood the sentiment behind suicide. I ran away from home once, and I knew that it was going to hurt my family, but felt like it was going to be a favor to both of us. Suicide is obviously infinite times more rash and devastating than the comparison I just made, but someone considering and/or carrying out suicide is obviously not in the right state of mind to begin with - therefore, that rash decision and the split second it takes to pull a trigger, jump off a cliff, etc. can make it seem like a logical and beneficial decision during that minute time period.
