These forced nicknames and pot jokes are so lame. Half of the US adult population under 50 smokes marijuana. I graduated from a fairly respected high school in Ohio a little more than 6 years ago and I can confirm that around half of the students used it to get high; most trying it around age 15. Recently on NFL network, Deion Sanders said that about 30% of the NFL is using pot on a regular basis. Meaning that marijuana use amongst college players probably falls within the 30%-50% range. With this in mind, it bothers me that because Jaamal Berry gets caught by a police officer with pot and he's publicly pegged as a stoned fiend.
He ran with some kids that - by all evidence - appear have a history of making poor decisions and he got busted. That doesn't have to be a big deal, but it all depends on what he chooses to do next. Fast forward to OSUF '09 picture day - Since the incident he's already said publicly that he just needs to watch who he hangs out with and focus more on his goals.
He's been very open about the situation with reporters and has maintained what appears to be a very hopeful, positive attitude. Now, I know most of you doing this are trying to joke in good fun and that's understandable, but i'm sure Berry, his family and the rest of the people on this board would rather just stop talking(and reading) about this and move on. Given that this thread wouldn't exist without him, I think the people that post here should honor that sentiment.

We all view the earth from different angles and different experiences. Maybe in your area it does not seem likely. That doesn't mean it's untrue. I have spent a great deal of time around OSU students and from my experiences, it's harder to find someone who doesn't smoke pot than who does. The stats are irrelevant because whether it's 50%, 30% or 15%, it's still a very large number of people that come from very different places. I mean marijuana possession of 100g or less in Ohio is not even a misdemeanor, it's a civil citations, like a parking ticket. If it happened here he would not even be breaking Ohio laws. It's all coaches code now. If he messed up again, he'll probably be on the ropes. One after that, probably gone.

Thanks! Glad to see someone who wasn't trying to turn that into an unwarranted drug debate.

I for one think Blaze actually suits Berry's play ability regardless of the off-field issue...

I'm curious though as to what made him have to sit out of the practice.

Uh, the world isn't one big college campus, sport. I was raised during pot's "glory days" ('60s-'70s) so I think I have a grip on the subject. Does a large amount of the US population toke, even once in a while? Yep. Does half the US adult population under age 50 light up? Not even close...

Yes, more than half the students I know and have met on campus light up a joint on a daily basis.

Not. We students cannot afford that.

Smoking pot once or twice in a lifetime doesn't count with what you're saying IMO.
