Optimism Lover
After watching Black Hawk Down for the 100th time the other day, I decided to seek out the book by Mark Bowden since the history of it all intrigues me so much. I ended up reading the book in a day and a half. 330-some pages or so. I normally don't tear through books like that, but this one is AMAZING. It's awesome in that it follows the movie (or should I say, the movie follows it) very closely yet fills in the holes with incredible detail. I would highly recommend this to anyone. It was about $15, but most definitely worth it. I haven't had a book I couldn't put down like this one in years. To say that the movie painted the picture softly is being kind, which makes the read that much more fascinating.
I usually don't push books on other people, but If I had to guess, I'd bet that there are a lot of Black Hawk Down fans on the board so I thought I'd share this tidbit.
Also, if any of you like the player-hunt-player video games like the Bond series (with the 4 way splitscreen), then the video game is awesome as well. You can choose from around 20 different Somalian backdrops and I was very surprised at how addictive it was. My cousins and I played for around 8 hours one night. Woops.
Anyway, genius book. Check it out. Any other BHD fans out there? IMO one of the better films of the decade.
(any of you vets have any connections or ties to the civil war in Somalia?, the whole thing blows my mind)
