5. Saluting Bill Snyder: Truth be told, the media as a group probably won't be shedding a tear seeing the veteran K-State coach step down. Leon Lett was more media friendly. The perpetually dour Snyder could make Lloyd Carr seem like Kelly Ripa. But you can't lose sight of what Snyder did taking one of the worst football programs in the country and turning it into a top-10 program.
The names I'm hearing for the vacancy are OU D-coordinator Brent Venables, a former K-State star and one of the country's top recruiters, USF coach Jim Leavitt, Dana Dimel, Bob Elliott and Texas DC Gene Chizik. Also don't be surprised if Rick Neuheisel and Mike Price's names get kicked around some here. Snyder made this a good job and it doesn't appear like there will be anywhere near the number of plum vacancies this offseason as there were last year.
