Family: Ex-Colorado coach Bill McCartney has late-onset dementia/Alzheimer's

The family of former Colorado head coach Bill McCartney said in a statement Monday morning that McCartney is suffering from late-onset dementia/Alzheimer's.

"We are making this public to ask for your understanding and patience as we know he frequently runs into fans, friends and former players," the family said. "This is a frustrating and confusing disease, and if he appears disconnected or unknowing, please don't take it personally."

That sucks. His 30 for 30 episode was really good. Seemed to genuinely care for his players. Helluva coach, too; as evidenced by the heights he took CU, and how hard they've fallen since. That's a tough school to win at, and he won a National Championship there. Would be similar to somebody winning an NC at Illinois in the B1G.

That might explain a lot about the goings on down there.

LSU finished the '97 season 10-2 with the #11 ranked defense in the country.
replaced defense coordinator (Carl Reese) with Lou Tepper before the '98 season.

began season win the top 10 in preseason polls.
Teppers #91 ranked defense was a big reason for finishing 4-7 that year. and then 3-8 the following season.
