Big XII now taking the fall?

milkman21

didn't you get that memo?
Not sure if this warrants a new thread, but I think we could get some good discussion out of this.

Oklahoma loses to Colorado, and looks pretty mediocre in the process. Texas loses to Kansas State BIG, and I didn't get to watch the game, but they trailed most of the way. Nebraska just a week or two ago got pounded by USC.

Does the Big XII start to take some of the heat from the national media? From my estimation, they now have zero legitimate title contenders, and we're only in week 4. Say what you want about the struggling Big Ten, but at least we still have sweet, sweet tOSU.

Thoughts?

EDIT: And for that matter, the Big East and ACC have been shameful, as well.

Make this about falling conferences, and we could add the Big East in the conversation.

Rutgers being beaten 34-24 by Maryland, who previously looked lousy against West Virginia, yet this week West Virginia poops their pants against the first decent Defense they face in South Florida. Not hoping for this, but what happens if UC loses to San Diego State?

Given that the Big East entered this weekend with 50% of their conference ranked in the top 25 they have lost a lot already, may have a lot to lose.

All that said, nothing beats the Sooners dropping a huge ball against the Buffs. Not even Texas coughing up four picks against KSU.

If you're going to use Texas losing to Kansas State, and Oklahoma losing to Colorado as arguments that the conference is down, then you can't be one saying that Michigan's loss to App State DOESN'T mean that the Big Ten is down.

Never did I claim that the Big Ten isn't down. I'm just pointing out that we're not the only ones ... and more importantly, I'm pointing out that the media should start giving some of the negative attention elsewhere.

I know it shouldn't be the case but pollsters believe in the transitive property. Consider then the following.

-Colorado lost to an unranked FSU team.

-KSU went on the road and couldn't beat a hapless Auburn team(that USF could beat on the road) then goes into Austin and puts it on the 'Horns.

-A MAC school lost to Nebraska, Nebraska didn't beat them.

-Hell, Illinois gave B12 North favorite Mizzou all it could handle without Juice Williams for most of the game.

The B12 is as bad or worse than the B10 top to bottom. They are now officially out of BCS title consideration and if I'm not mistaken the RR Shootout just became a BCS elimination game.(OU will kill Texas btw)

The SEC is the only conference that is pretty strong. Every other conference is hard to read since most of the teams suck. I'm interested to see how USC looks tonight to get a read on how good tOSU is. If Washington can make it a game I'll feel pretty good.

Well it does cut the (media-blow-hard-thinking-its-God-like) Red River Rivalry down a notch or two....after all the loser will be 0-2 in conference play. I'm sure we'll get to hear for an entire week how it's still the greatest college football rivalry though :shake:

This is one reason why college football pisses me off sometimes. Guess what-football teams have off days occasionally-it doesn't mean that Colorado is definitely a better team than Oklahoma, or K-state better than Texas, it means they were better than them on that particular gameday. NFL teams take losses in stride-even the Super Bowl champs usually have at least 3 or 4. Upsets are fun and make watching SportsCenter a lot more interesting, but to play "my conference is better/cooler/tougher than yours" every weekend is just dumb,IMO.

True - though the Big East took a beat down this weekend.

I was just on the subway and a bunch of trashed Rutgers fans started the "R-U" chant. I started laughing and said didn't you guys just get smoked by fat Friedgen? (I was rocking the OSU polo) They had no idea who fat Friedgen was so I explained. Then they were shocked to find out they lost! None of the assholes even watched the game. East coast football fans are a joke!

Right now if I was to make a poll of the best chances to play in the national champ game, I'd have to go with this order.
1.) USC- Providing there is no choke... that's a big if, also the D has been suspect... and had trouble with a mobile QB, Dennis Dixon please help us out.
2.) LSU- Providing they win next week. It'll be a challenge, but I think this D might be able to learn from Auburn, but use it's better athletes.
3.) OSU- Providing they keep grinding it out and playin' good ole tressel ball. The last part of the season could be brutal. The current record of last 7 teams is 27-8 .771 winning % All teams have a winning record even Kent.
4.) USF- Providing they win out... current media darlings, play hard fought defense ok offense
Also Rans, but don't think it'll happen
Cal- Weak Defense in a pass happy pac-10... someone will eventually pick them apart, my guess is USC. Would be right around the 70th scoring D if not for Louisiana Tech
Kentucky- Giving up 32 points a game to teams not in 1AA or the worst two conferences in America (Sun Belt and MAC)
Cincinnati- Good team, just won't get the respect, maybe if they beat USF and run the table, but otherwise I don't see it happening, but on the bright side its nice to finally have another Ohio school with prominent attention.
Stick a fork in the Big XII this year, losses to KSU and Colorado should knock em way down. Nebraska will lose one or two more. Texas A&M has showed its true self.
