Big Ten Conference Divisions

I never thought anything would diminish my love for college football but this conference realignment and nike/unis crap has. Give it another couple of decades and this will just be minor league football.

I don't believe in college football, I just believe in the Buckeyes.

Separate them into divisions and move The Game to any other time other than the last regular season game, the say goodbye to The Rivalry...it just won't be the same. Don't agree? Watch the HBO special...

Fuck that shit. There is no good enough reason to screw with the rivalry. The Big-10 would be the MAC if not for tOSU and scUM(historically, not if they left right now). I never thought anything would diminish my love for college football but this conference realignment and nike/unis crap has. Give it another couple of decades and this will just be minor league football.

Wow. Please don't happen.

OSU and UM should be in the same division, The Game should be the last regular season game for both teams, and the Big Ten should not be divided by geography. For a good example of why geography doesn't work, see the Big XII North & South divisions.

The schools should be divided so that each schools rivals are in the same division, as we have speculated for months. I'm with Mili- the rivalry is already suffering due to one team not living up to their end of the bargin. It'll suffer more if we're not playing them at the end of each season.

Both Woody and Bo are going to turn over in their grave if this goes down.

That's the boat I'm sitting in.

Marginalizing the league's most profitable asset over the past 50+ years is a very, very bad idea.

I'm sure that there are 9 schools who are absolutely CRAZY on board with the idea though.

I want Ohio State and Michigan in the same division and the last game of the conference schedule for multiple reasons:

1. The tradition of the winner of The Game often being the Big 10 champion
2. The build up, the tunnel of pride, Mirror Lake Jump in the cold November evening and everything that goes along with that week.
3. Alabama - Auburn is a much better rivalry than FSU - Miami in part because of division placements and the week of the game

But I also like it for the following reason.

Ohio State's overall bowl record is not that good. I partially attribute it to playing teams in their home areas in the bowl game. I also partially attribute it to being so concerned with The Game that there is a let down in the bowl - see OSU-UM 06 and the consequential (or subsequential if you don't like my thinking) disaster against UF as an example.

I think by having The Game followed by the conference championship game the next week it will help to eliminate the bowl game let down. Forcing the team to not sit and dwell on the victory over Michigan will help them as they transition from winning the B10CG and then going to the BCSNCG or the Rose Bowl. My logic is based largely upon basketball. The Big 10 tournament and the one and done format has helped the Big 10 do better in the NCAA tournament by giving the players a similar win or go home feeling. Thus I think having the B10CG after The Game will mentally help the team as well.

Just wait till you have an undefeated season and victory in The Game.....followed by a loss in the Conference Championship Game that keeps you out of the BCSCG. I have to tell you, losing one of them (CCG) is like a kick in the nuts that deflates the whole season.

From an ousider's perspective, I believe changing anything about the current UM-tOSU game is a huge mistake. They should stay in the same division and play on the final reg. season game like they do now. Only now it will be for the right to go to the conference championship game (most years at least).

How could they even think they should touch this game? It's one of the pillars of college football??

Maybe they're putting this info out there to test the waters and see how it's received? That's one theory brought up on our Husker board. I hope it gets squashed quickly.

You cannot be in a different division than the skunkbears. Either round robin or same division, but playing them twice in a row is not an option, as it would demean the importance of the first win.

Bama and UF play in the regular season. I hope if we make it to the SECCG we do not have a repeat, no matter who wins the first one.

My first concern is that OSU and UM remain in the same division because I hate, loathe, despise and generally am not a fan of rematches.

If that happens I would reluctantly support moving the game earlier in the year.

Imagine a scenario where OSU has the division locked up and UM is out of it going into the last game. OSU still has to win the conference championship game to make it to the Rose Bowl (NC game is not on the horizon). Pryor is dinged up. A couple of linemen are gimpy. Heyward has rolled his ankle. Can JT really say screw it - we are going balls to the walls because this is "The Game"? Or do you rest some folks and make sure they are ready for the CCG?

These are not issues when you have five weeks off leading to a Bowl Game. But they are the decisions that come with playoffs and CCGs. And they are unscrewing the bottle containing that genie as we speak. Thump your chests all you like, but rational coaches are not going to pull out all the stops if they know it will keep them from beating Iowa the following week.

Put the game the last week in October when the season is well underway but nobody is out of it yet. Let 'em knock heads because they have to.

Either that or get rid of the Designated Hitter, leave CFB alone and keep us traditionalists happy.
