Maybe not immediately, but both schools have a lot of untapped potential. The extra money for the athletic department should go a long way.

I think ND is likely to do everything it possibly can to avoid joining the B1G. I think that's seriously dumb of them, but.. whatever....

I think it's funny that ND figures out they "have" to join a conference (at some level), decide on the ACC, and .... BOOM... the ACC begins to topple.

I wonder if they do stop at 16. Suppose they add Rutgers, UVA and UNC.... and Gold Teef, Clemson and FreeShoes go Big XII.... ND may come crawling... I don't think the B1G will turn them away...

Per Alex Prewitt's Twitter, the Maryland BoR vote was not unanimous, but the Big Ten CoP vote was. Move will be effective for 2014-2015.

Regent Patricia Florestano said meeting was closed because financial issues were involved. Said "majority" of Regents were present.

Regent Tom McMillen cast the only dissenting vote: "It's all about money. That's what it is." It is implied he was not opposed to the move, but he was opposed to the immediacy of the decision now and the way it went down.

I'm surprised there's not a thread on BWI already about how Delany waited until Penn State was down to expand East...just more EVIDENTS of the conspiracy against them.

Enough to matter THAT much though?

I mean we've had the extra revenue from the Big Ten network for quite a few years now. What has been the on field benefit for the Big Ten been as a whole?

The arguement that these schools may be more aggressive towards building up their football programs then some of our existing freeloaders is a nice thought but relatively unproven. These schools have been sitting in these huge markets for their entire existence and haven't been able to tap them anywhere near full potential.. Not convinced just BEING in the Big Ten is going to be enough to make them improve significantly

Rutgers has made quite a few moves in the past decade to improve their program. Maryland I wouldn't say has done quite as much, but they did just spend $50 million to overhaul their stadium and fired a relatively (for them) successful coach who seemed to have plateaued. I doubt either will be competing with Ohio State and Michigan year in and year out any time soon, but they could get to the second tier in with Sparty and Wisky.

They're also different from Purdue, Indiana, Illinois, etc., in that they are in a different geographic area than the powerhouses of the B1G. Others have mentioned that mid-Atlantic is a hotbed without a dominant school. Keeping some of those kids in the B1G and out of the SEC/ACC will be big.

I would not say they are toppling. They are adding Pitt and Syracuse soon. Although, it does not look good when schools start jumping ship when the big boys start calling.

It is funny that when ND joins the Big East it slowly disintegrates. Now ND joins the ACC and teams start to leave. I would love to see UNC, Duke and UVA follow Maryland to the B1G.
