That's why it sounds great to us and Wiscy. Probably not so much for scUM, MSU, and Nebraska. It will be logistically insane if they break up Rutgers and MD in separate divisions. Time to make the move to east/west.

Like in the previous split, I don't think logistics would/should have anything to do with it. These are football divisions after all, travel is not a huge issue.

The argument for keeping Rutgers and Maryland together would be more of an attempt to pitch them as rival..but a protected rivalry game which is basically inevitable anyway would take care of that.

As far as football goes, neither of these schools is much of a prize, but insofar as it ensures that PSU cannot flit around looking for some ACC super deal that cuts BigTen expansion eastward, this is a very good move.

Land UNC and Virginia and Notre Dame and Duke are screwed. Do not think it happens but it would be brilliant.

I'll bet that Penn State (president and/or trustees) has never seriously looked into transferring out of the B1G. They are smart enough to know a good thing when they have it. They just have the "mother load" of delusional fans.

Maybe Missouri and Kansas are in play, both are AAU schools too.

I wouldn't be surprised...seriously looking into things doesn't seem to be a strong point of the Penn State administration.

From 1979 to 2005 Rutgers never won more than 7 games. In the past 7 years they have won less than 8 games only once. They are not Nebraska, but they could very well become an upper middle Big Ten program.

(It didn't work. I thought I could make their case, but even reading my own post, I can't get excited about either of our new members.)

I don't think it is a coincidence that the Rutgers 'rise' also happened at the same time that every Big East football team worth a crap left the conference.

I just hope these n00bs don't come in to our conference expecting stuff to be handed to them on a silver platter.

That really, really surprised me. I thought it may happen eventually but that it would be several years down the road.

I really want there to be some element of strength of schedule in determining who plays who. This way no top teams can duck each other unless one team was historically bad for some time and wasn't a protected rival.


I really want UNC more than even ND or Texas or the rest at this point.
