Big East Over Rated...Again

yeah Louisville is better than Missagain, but not by much.

Louisville can actually score with regularity. They can't stop anything, but it isn't like Michigan can light everyone up anyway.

I don't think West Virginia is overrated right now.

Completely agree. This was my post after that game was over.

These big east teams put up rediculous numbers early in the season. If you actually take the time to watch one of their games though, you realize that no one can tackle! The WVU game was the same way last weekend. Guys get hit near the line of scrimage but don't get wrapped up and they go for 40 yeards and a TD. In the box score you see, Steve Slaton 40yrd TD run. Against a fundamentally sound team, you see 20 carries for 58 yards.

Like I said last night, any team that gives up over 550 yards and 42 points to bloody Middle Tennessee State, shouldn't be ranked above Ohio State. Take away a couple of homer calls and some really stupid throws into coverage and Navy might just have taken Rutgers tonight, too.

Did you hear "spray and play" Holtz talking the "great" Big East tonight ESPN? Not quite so hilarious as his "peptalk" to SCUM players prior to the game this week, but close.

The pep talk was a classic. Heck, he was about as inspiring as watching paint dry. Sure the players might have charged out of the lockerroom and onto the field, but I think the reason would have been far more understandable to someone who found Larry Craig's foot headed their way from the next toilet stall, rather than some positive motivations.

Where in the heck do ESPN come up with this crap? Geez, you don't get this kind of comic theatre in South Africa. I was in tears with laughter.

I think that West Virginia is a sound team. Rutgers is a good team but well over-rated. From what I saw in their last games last season and the beginning this year, I think Cincinnatti is underrated.

But, I tell you, that Holtz guy is really funny. It would be better if his co-hosts were issued with glasses with little windshield wipers. Now that would be worth watching.

I saw that little deal by Holtz and wondered two things , first did they have to order Hotlz to do it because he must have known thatany coach worth his salt would be extremely insulted by it. And that is #2 that Carr would be really pissed off by anyone so presumptuous as to tell him how to speak to his team.
Heck if I was a player I would be mad over it too. Like , who in the heck is he to tell speak to us.
Besides his tie looked so big I thought it was painted on by a catoonist.

Well considering how pissed off I get hearing SEC morons judge our entire conference based on the outcome of one game, I'll pass on lableing the entire BE as overrated.

I'll just say that I don't feel L'ville is a top 10 team with that kind of defense.

The Big East is the Pac 10, basically. Plenty of offense, no defense. Cincy actually seems to buck that trend, and that was a nice win for them Thursday. I dunno, if Louisville is horribly overrated, then so is Texas, who squeaked by another Sun Belt team. I think there are some solid squads...we'll see how it goes the next couple of weeks.

I'm honestly not worried about the health of the B10 too much. I do root for B10 teams playing OOC, even when they play eachother. (except for ttun lmao) But Ohio State can't make the rest of the B10 better.
The ADs have done an excellent job scheduling good OOC games. If you beat teams like USC, VT, etc. you're not dependent on the perception of your conference. And if you lose to those teams, you're probably out of NC contention anyway. Which is about when I cease to give a damn about polls.

This year is probably the only exception to that logic. But right now NC contention isn't really on my mind.

And back on topic -- I do think UL and WVU are over-rated. No defense last year, and no reason to believe there will be any this year. Beating lackluster ACC teams in their bowls didn't really give us much to work with either. Nor is it like anything is expected from their OOC opponents.
Anyone find it ironic that WVU stops playing VT and are suddenly a powerhouse?
Color me unimpressed. :so:
