Big 10/SEC Player Rankings - Fantasy

BigWoof31

"Barkin' up the wrong tree"
BP Buddies - BigWoof needs your opinions.

I am playing in a Big10/SEC Fantasy Football league and my draft is this evening. Any player on active Big 10/SEC Rosters is available to be drafted at the following positions: QB, RB, WR, TE, K, DEF (no flex).

Points are standard.
6 points for Passing/Rushing TD's, 10 rush/rec yards =1 point and 25 passing yards = 1 point. No PPR and No bonus for over 100 yards rushing, 300 yards passing.

In preparation of the draft - I pre ranked all the players by position. Typically making it to the top 15 or 16 before stopping (only 10 players in the league). However, I know very little about finding valuable players amongst teams like Perdue, NW, MSU, Minnesota...etc

See my rankings below. If you believe it shows bias - please tell me who and why. Feel free to re-rank players as you see fit. Ignore the kickers and defense as I can handle that. I especially need help on Big10 WR's and TEs. I used the following links as a guide and they might be total crap.

I welcome your help and criticism. Rep for any and all who help.

For fantasy, I'd have Tandon Doss much higher among WRs.

If there are no penalties for interceptions (I'm not in any leagues, so I just don't know), I'd also move Chappell and Cousins up - they should both throw for 3,000 yards.

Stay away from Forcier - he probably won't start very many games.

And Julio Jones is a 1st round talent, but his production last year was way below Keith Smith's.

For TE, Saunders is in the doghouse for a team rules suspension, supposedly it isn't related to the Miami party investigation, but he might miss a game or two for some reason.

For Big Ten TE, Lance Kendricks (Wiscy) and Allen Reisner (Iowa) are good choices that are replacing guys in TE-friendly systems, along with Dunsmore (NW) and Charlie Gantt of MSU. I'd go Kendricks-Dunsmore-Gantt-Reisner just among Big Ten TEs.

Nick Toon (Wiscy WR) belongs somewhere in the middle of the pack.

Darius Willis (Ind) should be on the RB list ahed of a few of those listed.

Great stuff. Exactly what I was looking for

Cousins should be third. We know what garcia is at this point (and it's mediocre), Cousins was very good last year but kept getting pulled out for the running QB Nichol. He wasn't yanked because of his performance, it was done in spite of it, and regularly ruined drives. Cousins would lead them down the field on one or two drives, then they'd ignore the momentum and throw the athlete on the field, only to watch him go three and out. Anyway, Nichol is now at WR full-time.

Forcier is not the starting QB, and he's fighting to avoid getting passed by a true freshman. I would take Denard long before Tate, both on upside and who is actually starting. Tate has been slacking off ever since he roasted some awful ND & directional school defenses in September, and when real competition showed up, his production was as bad as the trainwreck in 08.

Adam Weber has regressed the last two years. I don't want him on my squad unless it is a very late pick. Marquise Gray is a poor man's Terrelle Pryor and gets PT. If he can continue to develop, it is possible he could take over the starting job.

I don't trust drafting any of the Iowa RBs. They have 3 good backs and little to separate them. Draft at your own risk, could be looking at a RBBC situation.

I would draft Saine before Herron. Their RB carries will be comparable (Saine may start), but Saine is a much bigger part of the passing game and could remain the starting KR if the youngsters don't take his job.

The sparty WR to watch is Keshawn Martin, who is a very dynamic all-purpose WR. He returns kicks, gets screens, slants, sweeps. They will even use him a little as a wildcat QB (they had him throw a little last year). Look at his production against Texas Tech when the other WRs were suspended. Now the defenses will be a lot more sound than that, but it is a hint about what he could do.

Derrick Moye doesn't even belong on this list. Between their OL issues and very raw QB play, I don't want any part of a PSU WR unless it is really late, and even then I'm not sure I like him.

Where is Iowa WR Marvin McNutt? RR's stupidity in not retaining WR coach Soup Campbell has led to some stellar production at that position, and McNutt was a breakout player last year. Koulianos is the #1 WR, but McNutt gets into the endzone.

Indiana actually has two WRs that deserve consideration.

WR Roy Roundtree looks to be staying in the slot, which means he'll catch about 800x as many balls as the outside WRs, which are often used as decoys and blockers. He took over as the starting slot late in the year and put up outstanding numbers. Odoms is healthy but looks to be starting out at the other WR position.

I want no part of OSU's 3rd WRs. None of them will be consistent enough to merit consideration. Stick with the top-2. Devier is a WR1 or WR2, and Dane is a nice WR2 / WR3. If they can get a solid third weapon in the passing game he will be a steady if unspectacular producer for you (though occasionally he goes off).

OTOH, Jake Stoneburner could be a major weapon in this offense. With Duron Carter shipped off to Juco, they need a 3rd target in the passing game, and Brandon Saine, FB Zach Boren & TE Jake Stoneburner will provide that. They have really worked the TE into the offense since bowl season, and Jake is a former WR that is a tough matchup for any defense. OSU fans are jaded and don't believe we'll finally see the TE get used, but he is a big part of the preseason prep.

Charlie Gantt is not an overly safe choice, because they have 4 quality TEs and use all of them. If he didn't have so much competition, he'd be a great TE option.

You've seen them a lot more than I have, so I have no reason to disagree with you. I guess I'm just jaded and will believe it when I see it. It seems we hear it every year, yet JT's TE-eligible play only makes an appearance once or twice a game.

As far as fantasy points are concerned, I think I'd take a chance pulling names of Wisconsin TEs out of a hat before I'd ever touch an Ohio State TE. Last year, Graham and Kendricks combined for 80 catches, ~1,000 yards and 10 TDs. Graham's in the NFL now.

Take Lance Kendricks.

They love that rollout to the te and were using jake down the seam far more in the jersey scrimmage. Pryor was rarely allowed to throw there to any target bc of risking ints, let alone to the infamously missing te.

I am not sure what kendricks has to do with jake. Kendricks is one of the rare few tes nationwide that is a major fantasy weapon. Jake falls into the category of the other guys after dunsmore and williams. The others will be steady but mediocre, jake could be a big sleeper pick

Bit of Finality for those who contributed to the thread:

I had the #3 overall pick and Ryan Mallett fell to me.

Mallett
Mike Hartline QB, UK - Backup

Trent Richardson -Bama
Onterio Something or another - #1 RB, Auburn
Brandon Wegher, I guess he's Iowa's "young gun"?

Julio Jones
Tandon Doss
Keshawn Martin
Marlon Brown

Kendricks
Dunsmeyer

Florida's Defense!

Mallett & Kendrick are close to the top nationally, let alone in these two leagues.

My only concern is your weak RB pool (I like trent, you just have a lot of backups). McCalleb could be a stud for you at Auburn, but you don't have a surefire feature back in that group.
Brandon Wegher, I guess he's Iowa's "young gun"?
When Robinson was injured, he stepped up very nicely last year. When Robinson returned, he continued to do nice things while splitting carries. Now Jewel Hampton comes back from injury, who was ahead of both of them (but he got into trouble this offseason).
