I couldn't decide whether this should go in the BBall or FBall section, so I compromised and didn't go with either.

Who is the better playing surface (field/floor) General, Troy Smith or Michael Conley?

Smith is a great passer, but so is Conley. Smith has a better TD:INT ratio than Conley has Ast:TO. Conley is definitely quicker than Smith though. Both have a nice spin-move, but overall I give the better spin to Smith. Conley on the other hand is a better juker with the ball in his hands. Smith has great timing on his throws, Conley has great hang-time on his jumps. Conley is 6'1", while Smith is a mere 6'0". Most importantly both beat tsun regularly.

Conley.

Troy took 3 years to become a capable QB, and 5 to become the best in the land. Troy developed into a legend, but Conley is almost there now. We won't see him in C-bus for 2 more years, let alone 4. He'll be busy starring in the NBA.

If Conley comes back and OSU returns to the Elite 8/Final 4 next season, then I may have to change my mind in March 2008, but for now, I'm going with Troy. Troy directed wins over Notre Dame, Texas, and Michigan (three times). His run was soured by the poor showing in the championship game, and he has unfairly suffered for it -- but that was a complete team loss.

Troy's still my guy.

Great Post, I agree

Troy Smith, and its not that close.
I really like Mike Conley, but Troy Smith really is in another league at this point. It may have taken Troy longer, but football is a completely different undertaking than basketball. Troy's body of work is so much more impressive.
Perhaps Conley will be able to hang with Troy at this time next year, but I bet if you asked Conley he would tell you he hasn't been a leader long enough to compete with Troy on this topic.

Troy Smith hands down. Give Conley a little more time and he'll probably get there, but Troy is on another level. Watch the last drive of The Game '05...that was some cold hearted shit right there. That and his tears supposedly cure cancer or some shit...

Too totally different situations, and you really can't make a fair comparison. However, although Troy developed into an outstanding team leader and always had his teammates' respect even before he became the starter, Conley seems to be just as good a natural leader and he's only a true freshman and not fifth-year senior.

Conley

I can't imagine Conley going for 1-10 with 6 turnovers and 1 assist, whcih would be the equivalent of what happened in Phoenix.

Conley has more control over what happens to him than Troy does in football though. Troy relies heavily on his o-line and recievers to be successful. Neither did a good job. Conley relies some on his teammates but basketball is much less team-oriented.
