Best website for purchasing electronics?

slickdeals.net has tons of deals on electronics, and HDTVs. Best of all, they have a flurry of responses discussing the deal, comparing them to other recent hdtv deal threads, evaluating the seller, and other relevant banter.

Click on their forums, then hot deals. You can also search for 'hdtv' and check the box for search in titles only.

JandR.com is a reputable dealer out of NYC, Amazon uses them.
Amazon is good for most small things.

I must caution those ordering over the Internet that shippers can be brutal.
Want to buy a TV over the Internet? Don't do it! Buy local.
I ve had bad luck with UPS, I try to avoid using them for electronics.
I'll use Fed EX for most electronics shipping.

Also be aware that some discount websites don't include a valid warranty. If the price seems much lower than other websites, there's probably some hitch to it.

About 6 months ago I shopped the price-comparison sites (shopzilla et al) for the best price on the TV I was looking for (from a site with a decent reputation).

I ended up with exactly what I wanted for a screamin' deal. I saved 50% over buying it at a brick-and-mortar.

The site I ended up buying from was Abes of Maine. Experience was decent but not great, which is what I would expect from a bargain outlet. And they did try to upsell me on a bunch of worthless crap; but they took "no" for an answer without too much trouble.

One very important piece of advice: Check the MANUFACTURER'S web-site for specials. I got a FREE 5-year-warranty from Panasonic (in home repair regardless of the reason for the problem) that neither Panasonic nor their distributors were advertising anywhere. The deal ended quite some time ago, but fo all I know they may be doing it again soon. It took them forever to actually mail it to me, but it finally did arrive.

FWIW: The TV in question is a 50" plasma and every person who has seen it declares it to have the best picture they've ever seen. Needless to say that the coming football season is going to be S-W-E-E-T.

I would suggest reviewing online dealers at places like bizrate and other sites. I have no experience purchasing a TV online...yet, but I have heard a lot of good feedback from amazon(make sure its amazon selling), onecall, newegg, vanns, beachcamera, costco, and sams club....among others. I know I included beachcamera in there, but you have to be skeptical about the camera places selling TVs. I have heard a lot of poor customer service and even refusal of sale because of the customers unwillingness to purchase accessory items. The NY/bronx dealers are where most of the dealers are from and while there are some good ones in there...there are probably around a hundred bad ones as well that are just scam artists. The avsforum could give you a wider array of opinions for your needs.
