I can't get away with not caring about who wins. I've been to the Cal Stanford game... which is about as zany a rivalry as there is, seeing the marching "Palo Alto" and Hoover Tower, going down the field with the band is crazy... But I ALWAYS want Cal to win. Two years of living in the Bay Area was enough to be fed up with Stanford's arrogance.
I've got an agenda to my rooting, a list of teams I want to see beaten headed by Notre Dame and followed by the Yankees, Dodgers, Raiders, Cowboys, Puke, UNC, USC, any team from New York or LA, any team coached by Steve "Whiner" Spurrier
and a similar line up of teams I want to see win, Big 10, Reds and Indians, Miami (of Ohio), Washington Huskies, Packers and 49ers,
I've tried watching some games with teams I "don't care about" and seem to find myself pulling for one or the other within minutes... it's just innate.
One game I would love to see is the Army - Navy game. Being retired Army forces me to back the Black Knights of the Hudson, but the tradition, spectacle and the knowledge of where those young men, and the men and women in the stands, will be in the next few years overwhelms me... especially at the end of the game when both teams face the stands and sing each others alma mater... it really doesn't matter who wins that game.
