Best Recruiting Website

ScarletBlood31

Buckeye in Blacksburg
I used search but couldn't find anything along these lines

I've been thinking about subscribing to one of the popular recruiting sites, but i'm not too sure on which would be the best to pay money for.

I use Rivals 99% of the time (for the free content), but I know that Scout.com and Bucknuts.com are also common ones linked here on BP, as well as some others. I am obviously very interested in Ohio State's recruiting, so having the edge for the Buckeyes prospects would be nice, but also like to keep up with what other schools are doing nationally.

For those of you who are experienced with one or more of these sites, which would you recommend to someone who is fairly new into the (mainly football) recruiting field? Does one of them continually come up with better information than the others, is the insider set up / message boards better on one, or are most of them the same?

Thanks in advance.

would you rather pay 49.95, or 77.95?

Annually?

I mean since I am mostly a beginner at following recruiting, I probably don't need to go all out on my first one.

However, if there isn't too big of a difference in price and one site is clearly better, I'd probably go for the nicer one and make it more worthwhile.

Someone PMed me with this exact questions recently, and my response was along these lines:

Scout - Best inside info, updates from nevada and Bill Greene are worth the price alone, best basketball team game coverage
Rivals - most updates network-wide by far, most recruit film, best basketball recruiting coverage, best historical coverage
Bucknuts - best Ohio HS coverage and Duane Long is still the best in the business of breaking down film

Thanks. I'm definitely going to check out Scout more, especially if the Nevada and Bill Greene guys are as good as you say they are.

I subscribe to Rivals because it looks better, but would agree that the insiders on Scout have the best information. Rivals gets their stuff AFTER I read it on scout and it seems like a lot of time AFTER somebody asks about it on the Rivals board and their staff checks on it. They do come up with quite a bit of "new" info, and they are very good at what they do over at Rivals, but I would focus on Scout and go there..... fwiw.

Honestly? I come here...this is THE most complete and comprehensive recruiting and OSU specific site I have seen.

My time on the others has dwindled SIGNIFICANTLY. Especially on the free boards...which is for the free birds if you ask me.

I completely agree. The work that the recruiting mods do here on BP is incredible, especially considering that any of us can just come on here for free and have access to all of this information, and opinions.

However, having access to a premium site would be nice, as when the articles are linked here in BP, I would be able to read the full articles that I otherwise would only have a brief summary of, along with the obvious other features.

been an insider at scout (2+) bucknuts (2+) and rivals (just about a year)...

when i get home from work every day i visit them in order of least favorite to most favorite...(note: not least favorite because i dont like it--but because of the way the content appeals to me)

should be noted that i'm by far most interested in insider recruiting and team information that you usually find on message boards. this is followed by stories on recruits and finally general stories on the team.

favorite is scout. nevadabuck and bill greene are unmatched with the insider information and it's not really close. the insider message board gets messy at times but as long as you know how to sift through/navigate the garbage, it's the best. i generally do enjoy their recruiting articles because they are more in-depth, but they aren't as frequent as i would like. the basketball board ranks second out of the OSU boards for insider information and the free basketball board is the only free board i ever visit. the national board is pretty terrible aside from what bob lichtenfels has to say, as he is usually pretty spot on.

second favorite is bucknuts. they've got some good insider information usually and will break it before scout every once in awhile. duane does a very good job at breaking down prospects, and i feel that their general stories on the team are the best as they seem to have the most access in terms of credentials. kurelic is definitely the man when it comes to pumping out recruiting articles, though i wish they had more content at times. the conversation is generally much more rational and thought-provoking on the insider board. basketball board is non-existent and i don't even try. though espn's recruiting service is garbage, the insider access to the main espn board that comes with a subscription to bucknuts is nice because it seems like half of espn's content requires insider status there. also espn the magazine is nice to get in the mail every other week for two reasons--it gives me something to page through to pass the time while i "take the browns to the super bowl", and also i really like getting stuff in the mail that isn't bills.

rivals usually comes in third with the insider information, though i don't blame them after kurelic left as they seem to be a bit under-manned. that being said, brian and kevin are to be highly commended for their work. the football and basketball skull sessions are MUST READS and are my favorite things about the buckeye sites that aren't "nuggets" from nevada or greene. they have the best basketball content in my opinion. i enjoy going to the national board because there is much more discussion going on to keep me up to date on good players around the country and what their decisions are, even though there are a plethora of flamers lurking.

as for old buckeyeplanet, this is usually the first buckeye site i check out--not because it's got the worst content, quite the contrary. coming here--you'll be sure not to ever miss any story on a recruit from any of the other sites...it's fantastic and a service that i really value. the discussion here is also the best out of all the boards as the moderators do a great job getting rid of the garbage-talk. also, i've learned to heed the words of the insiders around here as they know what they're talking about more than any site that isn't named scout.

to recap:
1) scout
(1a = buckeyeplanet, but it's free!!)
2) bucknuts
3) rivals

between my dad and i, we subscribe to all three of them; but if i had to choose one, that's how they'd be ranked...
