The first car I owned I bought from Budget for $89 down
And 275,000 miles later it finally died this past summer although I gave it to my Dad the year before that....

this guy. small shop just north of dayton. will find you any car you are looking for. just write him and tell him what you want. he deals primarily with lease vehicles 1 to 2 yrs old, low mileage, with warranties, and more often than not with the full maintenance history. my step dad has bought 4 trucks off of him over the last 20 yrs. i bought my truck from him and 13 yrs and 250k miles later ill be buying my next truck from him.
as far as rentals are concerned. go to any car forum on the net and ask how they treat them. if you get less than 10 replys inside of an hour reporting how they do everything in their power to destroy them ill be shocked. there's no amount of maintenance that can help a 4 banger that has been subjected to repeaded 6k rpm tranny drops. im not saying you can't get a good car at a good price this way. im certain you can. but i have to think your odds of getting a pos and dealing with a problem someone else caused is significantly higher as well.
