Best in state

The top high schools in each of the 50 states and D.C.

Whether it is because of school size or the depth of the regional talent pool, not all state champions are created equally.

Still, after sifting through state tournament results for the 2006-'07 school year, contacting athletic directors from top programs, examining all-around success rates as well as weighing the importance of producing star athletes and teams that excelled on the national level, SI.com has assembled a list of the top high school athletic program in each of the 50 states, plus the District of Columbia.
Ohio ..... Hilliard Davidson ..... Hilliard, Ohio

how did the rest of their sports programs do besides football? davidson definitely wouldn't be the first to come to my mind. i am not sure but X and glenville typically have strong programs in a lot of sports.

It would probably have to be X based on the last few years. They dominate swimming, they've won football. They've been to a few basketball final fours. They've won cross country. I'm pretty sure they've won golf/tennis. Eds or Moeller would probably be second. With all the football talent Eds has, they've never really won anything. Glenville wins track championships, but that's it.

The top program in Ohio in the last few years without a doubt is St.X. All time it would probably be Upper Arlington, but X takes the crown easily(and they should with a male population of 1400+).

What a joke. GCL schools dominated the Ohio HS playoffs and yet they pick Hillard.

2006 - 2007 State tournament results
football; Hillard 1, congrats!
cross country: La Salle 1, St X 11, HD 14
soccer: HD ties with Elder as Regional semi finalists
golf: Moeller 7th, St X 8th, HD no show
hockey: Moe regional semi finalists, St X qtr finalists, HD no show
swimming: St X 1, Moe 17, Elder 28 HD no show
basketball; Moe 1, St X 2, Elder and La Salle to the regionals
wrestling: Moe 2, HD 6, St X 9
track: La Salle 18, Moe 25, HD 30
baseball: Elder semi finals, Moe, St X to regional finals, HD no show
volleyball: Moe 1, Elder 2

While I would certainly listen to any argument that the state tournaments should be divided into public and private, the facts as they stand in the current situation certainly brings in the notion that someone at SI got a blow job to write the article.

I'm not too familiar with Hilliard having a lot of non-football success...certainly not in Girls/Boys Basketball, Baseball, track...

If Hilliard hadn't had the recent couple years of football success, they might not even be in the top 5 of Central Ohio, and no where near the top of the Cincinnati or Cleveland schools...not to mention there isn't a bit of history with the program

Actually, he is very right and any fight to the contrary is stupid. The GCL is so far above any other league in Ohio it's joke to argue any other way. The team that wins the all GCL trophy is the best sports school in Ohio 95% of the time, hands down. It's not even close.
