Best cheesesteak in Philly?

Is it just me or does it seem like it would be a good idea for one of these Philly guy's to start a chain so that you can get a good cheesesteak in other cities? I've never been to Philly so I don't even know if I've ever had a good cheesesteak.

Bro-in-law is OSU grad.. was out here just a few months ago.. with his son on a lacrosse trip... I had him be the official tester

On back to back days... he did Genos and then Pat Kings.. no coaxing whatsoever...

Hands down Pats... which has always been my vote as well

I talked to a guy in Atlanta who has a very, very popular quick service BBQ restaurant about a similar move and why he has never thought about franchising?

He hemmed and hawwed a bit - but basically said that he can't control the final product that is served in a franchise situation. He can set as many standards as he wants for the restaurant - but private owners will do whatever they want to drive up revenue - even if it means cutting quality.

Perhaps this might be the reason?

Penn Station is actually really good if you ask for American instead of provolone, although it's really expensive.

The bottom line is there is a brand of roll in Philadelphia called Amoroso, and it's probably the best sandwich bread I've ever had. Shops around the country get it shipped in.

I've talked to some shopowners in the Philly area and some think that the high levels of calcium in the water in the Philadelphia area just make better bread. Whatever it is, the roll definitely makes the sandwich.
