Best Buy Secret Employee Only Website Shows Different Prices From Real Site

Big Papa

Urban!!!!
I hate Best Buy.

Have you ever found a deal at Best Buy's website only to travel to the store and find that the "sale" is over? Did the Best Buy employee show you "proof" on their "website"? It now seems that there are really TWO websites, and they're identical except for the prices. Here's the deal:

Are you serious? I worked at BBY for 2 years in college (03-04) and that is bull shit. If anything, the pressure they put on their salespeople causes them to drop prices too much just to get a sale. I've always told all my friends never to pay the tagged price for anything at best buy. Everything there is negotiable. The way the corporation is set up is totally competitive. There are districts and regions and everyone is ranked on a daily basis. Managers who come in last get fired. Therefore, they are more than willing to give up five percent margin on a TV to get the 2000 revenue. The article you show here is rubbish.

I dunno if it is true or not, just thought it was an interesting article. I hate BB to start with so if it is true, it would not surprise me. Here are others that posted in the user comments at DIGG that claim to have had this happen to them in person:

I've never got a hint whatsoever that they are willing to negotiate at Best Buy.

I went in to get a computer a few years ago and almost had to beg someone to help me and then they said to come and get them if I had any questions.

I negotiated my plasma at Best Buy - got a good deal - equaled the ranked prices on pricewatch and shopper.com. Plus those "deals" would have required shipping costs similar to the discount I asked for and received - and a week or so delay in delivery.

This one is kind of different. Believe it or not, BBY makes no margin on computers. Therefore, they have no room to bargain. Where they make a killing is all the add ons. Service plan, USB cord, printer, mouse etc etc. As an employee we got 5% over cost. On computers that was nothing. On a $100 monster cable for a plasma TV I would pay 10 bucks. The accesories are where they make a killing. There is a rule for BBY employees that we had to throw on 3 accesories to every major sale. So a plasma would need a service plan, a monster cable surge protector and a dish network subscription. It was called a hot dog with chili cheese. The sales manager would stand around the corner and make sure you were getting the add ons. They could care less if you got the guy to buy a $5000 TV, they were worried about the add ons (actually they are worried about margin, but with add ons come margin).

Any other questions about BBY let em rip. I'll help y'all out.

I think 14 is right. Long ago I worked for a while at Radio Shack. The managers couldn't care less if you sold a 300 dollar pair of speakers, but would absolutly shiver when batteries or electonic parts, ie. boards, resisters, chips, switches ect. were on the counter. Back at the golf course, the pro couldn't care less about greens fees, he got his stuff off on lessons and 2 dollar cokes. He would actually laugh when ringing up the drinks, swore he only had 5 cents in each one, cup, ice, and syrup included...

This was a few years ago, but when we were shopping for our HDTV, we waited until Best Buy had a huge sale. We took the Best Buy ad to Sears, and Sears beat BB's price by 10%. They wrote down a quote and stapled it to a brochure. We took that quote directly over to Best Buy and they beat the Sears price by another 10%, and threw in free delivery.
