Best Buckeye Defense Ever?

1973 defense gave up 43 points (regular season) and in a span of 5 weeks only had 7 scored on them at one point.

If this was already poted i apologize, i didnt read the entire thread

EDIT: Pretty much already posted now that read the entire thread...

If you pose the question "best defense ever?" you have to to evaluate seasons you didn't experience or the question becomes "best defense you've ever seen?". Ohio State's best defense ever was by all accounts 1973.
I'm still waiting for the "if you put 2005's defense on the field with 1973 opponents they would have given up fewer points."

Comparison's are so difficult. Even statistics don't tell the whole story. Or can be twisted to make a point.
Is college football and the Big Ten the same as 2002? Doubt it.
Everything changes with time. It's the nature of all things.
The recent evidence, like the article Grad just c&ped, says the offenses are ahead of the defenses.
We just have to appreciate this team for what it's doing.

Actually, with the significant difference in size and speed between today's kids and those of the early '70s, I'm sure that the 2005 defense would be very dominating against 1973 offenses. Or, if the 1973 defense had to face the offenses of today, what with the bigger OL and bigger and faster RBs and WRs (and QBs that run without hesitation), they wouldn't be quite as dominating. That being said, for playing against opponents of their time (which of course is how reall football is played, and not in some fantasy time warp), the 1973 Ohio State defense is not only the best ever at Ohio State, but it ranks among the very best in all of college football history.
