Metallica - Death Magnetic (I guess)

Seems like many of us are in agreement about Attack and Release...interesting considering it is a bit of a departure from the sound of some of their earlier albums.

Seems like many of us are in agreement about Attack and Release...interesting considering it is a bit of a departure from the sound of some of their earlier albums.

Yeah, it was a different direction from their usual blues sound. More of an alternative rock record, mainly due to the influence of Danger Mouse producing (I would guess). I thought it was a solid release. Definitely not their best release, but I still enjoyed it.

My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges

As good as those three albums are, the songs came off even better live. I was privileged to see all three of these bands in 2008

The album people have been falling all over themselves about this year that I didn't dig was The Hold Steady's "Stay Positive"...it's an okay album but certainly not worth the all the hype lauding them as one of the bands that will "save rock and roll" (I think I read that in either GQ or Maxim)...

EDIT: Just noticed it on NFBuck's list...

Agree on this. I love The Hold Steady and the album has a couple good songs, but no great ones. It's not as good as previous albums, and not as good as I was expecting. It wasn't a stinker, but I just don't find myself listening to it all that much.

The only "new" album I got in 2008 was Last Rodeo by honeyhoney so that's my default "best of the year."
