I can't believe that I forgot Pokey Little Puppy- I just bought that for my little guy. And Clifford the Big Red Dog was awesome, too.

Where the Red Fern Grows- wasn't there a dog that died in that one? Any story where a dog died would always make me cry.

Speaking of puppies - did anyone ever read Nothing at All about the little invisible puppy who had to spin around in circles chanting "I'm busy getting dizzy" to make himself visible?
