Cincinnati, Ohio (AP) – In a surprise move today, Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown announced that the team would lift the franchise tag from kicker Shayne Graham and place it on the head groundskeeper for Paul Brown Stadium, Darian Daily. When a stunned reporter asked why the team made such a move Brown was quoted as saying, “When you look at the excellent job he has done here at PBS, you just can’t let a guy like that get snatched up by another team. You can look out at the field on any given Sunday and not once do you see a blade of grass out of place.” Mr. Brown declined further comment when reminded by that same reporter that the grass was replaced with synthetic turf in 2004.

Not about the Franchising of Graham, but ugh!!

Yeah I agree, that's ugly, but it's about what I expected. I think the guy who followed and said Hawk had surpassed Urlacher (assuming he meant in his prime) is juuuuusssst a bit outside...tried the corner and missed.

I was just thinking about the Bengal boards because I know tibs used to mix it up with Graham's sister on one of those...just figured he'd have baited her into a death threat or 2 by now.

I wouldn't mind taking Jenkins...not really exactly a position of need but at least it might make the '09 season interesting. We really need DT's (like every year) but of course we'll neglect that and pick an offensive player we could have got in round 2.

They dont need a cb. they need and will hopefully take a OL. Jones has been banged up the last two years and Andrews if he is back will not be ready until June or July at the earliest. If one of those top three linemen make it to the Bengals I would guess that they would take them.

As far as TJ I would have loved to see him stay, but he had siad he wasn't going to show up for camps if they tagged him, and made it sound like he would be a cancer. I like TJ but I think he is going to find a team that will overpay for him this off season. Mybe the Bengals can get him to sign, but I am glad we did not tag him, as he is not worth the money.

EAGLES TELL T.J. TO TAKE A HIKE?

Posted by Mike Florio: Friday, February 27, 2009 8:07 PM

Receiver T.J Houshmandzadeh has said that he'd like to play for the Eagles.

But, as it turns out, the Eagles might not be interested.

According to Derrick Gunn on Comcast SportsNet, the Eagles didn't react kindly to an effort by Houshmandzadeh to dupe the team into thinking that he was offering Philly a discount. After checking around, the Eagles reportedly learned that Houshmandzadeh's agent was actually asking for more money from the Eagles than from other teams.

Per Gunn, the Eagles previously had little interest in Houshmandzadeh. The alleged bait-and-swtich routine ensured that the Eagles won't make a play for him.

Meanwhile, league observers continue to believe that Houshmandzadeh won't strike it as rich as he'd prefer. As Howard Balzer of The Sports Xchange pointed out to me earlier in the day, Houshmandzadeh will be 32 later this year.

To put it bluntly, guys in their 30s rarely get rich in the early days of free agency.
If TJ doesn't get paid, think he'll return?

What kicks, punts?

Seriously though, for all that the Phillies aren't in a mood to pay TJ top dollar for a free agent WR, where do you - realistically - think this leaves the Bengals?

A - Offering TJ less than he wants?
B - Offering TJ less than any other Pro team will offer TJ?
C - All of the above?

(Answer C)
TJ's gone.

Agree. I think I told him he was full of shit, but he seemed to know something that I didn't.

(I still think he's gone, but the fact that he isn't going to get what he expected certainly doesn't hurt the Bengals' chances)

The Bengals are reportedly still negotiating in an attempt to re-sign T.J. Houshmanzadeh.

Housh visited Seattle Friday, but no signing is imminent. He listed the Giants, Eagles, Seahawks and Vikings as his favored landing spots, but the Bengals may have a chance to re-enter the derby. The Bears apparently never had interest, the Eagles are reportedly no longer pursuing him, the Giants deem him too expensive, and no other teams are lining up for visits.

Housh visited Viking Yesterday and is going down to visit Tampa Bay today. All this time to they have been reporting that he has had open talks with the Bengals. He said by the end of today he wants to be with a team. I think if a team is willing to overpay for him he is gone, I think if the contracts are all onthe same level he stays with the Bengals.
