Hudson sophomore Ben Gedeon is listed as a quarterback and linebacker, but coach Tom Narducci prefers to call him "The Answer."

"Need a quarterback, running back, defensive back, linebacker, cover rusher? We have Ben," Narducci said. "He's 6-3, about 210 pounds and he's a real specimen."

Gedeon doesn't care where he plays.

"I've always been a running back and linebacker but I just want to be on the field as much as possible to help the team," said Gedeon, the third of four children.

Former Explorers standout Alex Gedeon, now a starting linebacker at Harvard, has always referred to his younger brother as "Freak."

"He's been calling me that since I was little because I've always been one of the bigger kids," Ben Gedeon said. "I never took it serious because I know it's in fun and I look up to 'Big Al' so much."

The younger Gedeon is sharing snaps under center with 5-10, 154-pound junior David Nelson so don't be surprised if Hudson takes advantage of a two-quarterback system.

"It won't be a platooning thing, rather we'll utilize what each does best depending on the situation," Narducci said. "Both can run and pass and are very good on defense. In fact, David's one of our best safeties."

His older brothers have called him "The Freak" since he was a young kid because he was always so much bigger than everyone his age. Hudson sophomore Ben Gedeon grew up emulating and looking up to the athletic exploits of his older brothers, hoping one day to equal or even out perform them on the athletic field.

Hope no more...he has turned dreams into reality

From the minute last year when the 6 foot 2, 200 pound freshman became the Explorers starting tight end, he hasn't left the field. No, really..he hasn't left the field. See, Ben Gedeon plays both offense and defense. Something his brother Alex, now a starting linebacker at Harvard, didn't do. Ben is already being highly recruited by major Division I colleges.

Versitility is his middle name...

In last night's game against Cuyahoga Falls, Gedeon did a bit of everything. On offense, he lined up at quarterback, completing 4 passes. He lined up at running back, and had 125 yards on 21 carries. He lined up at receiver and had 2 receptions for 34 yards. Starting at linebacker, he held the Cuyahoga Falls offense to one touchdown in the first 3 and a half quarters, securing a 21-14 win, in the last game played at Donte Lavelli Stadium in Hudson

Ohio junior Ben Gedeon is turning heads, including some at U-M

To many sports fans Allen Iverson was "The Answer" and Jevon Kearse was "The Freak", but in the northeast Ohio town of Hudson, both of those nicknames belong to someone else.

Hudson high junior Ben Gedeon is known by those monikers, and is one of the Buckeye state's brightest gridiron stars.

Scout.com recently ranked Gedeon the No. 5 player in Ohio's 2013 class, but his physical prowess has been garnering attention for much longer. Case in point, the "Freak" designation was given to him at a very early age.

"Probably back in grade school," said Gedeon regarding when he was first referred to by the nickname. "I was just always a little bit bigger than everybody, so my family called me that."
