Been looking forward to the UT game for years, BUT...

First things first... Miami(oh) is going to have a solid team with a productive Offense next season. Tressel's been great at not allowing the team to overlook games, so we should be ok there, but I wanted to get a sense from you all on what you think of that critical first game.

To me, I gotta believe that our defense will be too much for them to handle, esp with it being in the Shoe.

Just want to be sure our collective focus remains on the NEXT game, no matter who's up afterward. Miami(oh) may be a tuffer team than we expect & with the students out at that time of year, we need to get the Shoe ROCKIN.

Go Bucks!

I think Miami has been good enough recently that we won't overlook them. However, I doubt that we'll embarass them in the Shoe. We aren't going to run up the score on an Ohio team and we'll be holding some things back for Tejas. JT will be just vanilla enough to get us past Miami.

You don't see teams 'overlooking' people very often in the opener.... most of the danger of looking past someone is that you come out flat and get in trouble against a team that you aren't prepared to play... After hitting each other all off season, they'll be more than happy to kick the snot out of someone else... we'll also have a veteran defense, with some real good linebackers looking to leave their mark... Just based on talent level alone, combined with opening day motivation... we should win easily.

Love the confidence & I too believe we have too much talent to allow a slipup.

I'm going to be there screaming my fool head off, that's for sure.

I see JT working hard on the running game against Miami. The passing game is going to be fine, but we will have 1 RB with a little experience and 2 with none. If the game is still close at the half look for JT to let Zwick start tossing the ball all over the field in the second. Miami isn't going to be able to keep up with our receivers. They will be breaking in a new HC and they're good OL coach will hopefully be coaching our OL by then. If Boeckman is the backup QB I'm sure JT would like to give him a quarter in an easier game. Give Ginn 10-15 touches on O along with PR's and KR's and the game will be in hand. From what I saw of Miami last year Betts was running for his life a lot. Running for his life against tOSU = sack or injury.

The only thing in Rugby's post that I would not totally agree with is Miami being good lately. They were great with Rothliesberger, but were just decent without him. We had three common opponents with them last year, and they got blown out by Michigan and Cincinnati while playing Marshall tough. In fact, those three games were their three regular season losses. We handled Cincinnati pretty handily in our opener last year against a MAC team, and I see the same this year.

Rugby is right in that JT will hold back some of the "goodies" for Texas.

It comes down to one word: speed. Unlike the texas and michigan game, our opponents will have no chance of staying with us. The speed at receiver with Ginn, Holmes and Gonzo, at TB with Wells/Haw and on defense will be way too much for miami. I can't see their offense having too much luck against or defense either.

The final score (43-10) in Miami's game at scUM was misleading. The total yardage was only 274-250 and the halftime score was 10-0. The 7 turnovers killed the RedHawks, including one when they were driving while still down 7-0.

Miami's OC the past couple year's is going to be the head coach and has said he plans on keeping a hand in the play calling. Their offense was still good after Ben left but not nearly what it was while he was there. Their QB, Betts, seemed to choke every big game (televised) they played in. He put up some amazing #'s against UC, I think over 400+ but couldn't get them points. From watching every televised game this year, he seems to get rattled very easily. I know they're losing one RB, Clemons and maybe two, Smith (not sure on him). Larkin, their top receiver and NCAA record holder for most consecutive games with a catch (52 I believe) is gone. Defensively, their best player is gone, Nande (The Nigerian Nightmare). The only threat I see is that of Ryne Robinson, a sophomore WR and return man. His return skills and elusiveness is second only to Ted. He already has the MAC punt return yardage and TD record after two years. We contain him on special teams and this shouldn't be a game.

This post sounds eerily reminiscent of posts I read on several internet boards around December 30, 2002. Trust me, Texas has speed. Yes, we are very fast but so are they. If you think Vince Young is not fast please review the game film. He is 6'5" of power and speed. Most people underestimate his arm because of his unorthodox throwing style but don't think this guy is not fast - he's football fast.

You think that Miami is less likely to turn the ball over against the Silver Bullets? SCum didn't have a running game at that point of the season, and that was Henne's first game that he had just found out he was starting a few day prior to. (stay away grammar police) I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

True, but our defense was/is better than Michigan's, and I think we'll treat Miami with more respect than did Michigan. Cincy also put up 45 on Miami whereas they couldn't find the end zone against us. Miami gave up 27+ points in six games, so their defense is fairly suspect. Provided JT does his usual job as keeping the team from looking ahead to the following game, and if our offense plays at or near the level it did against Michigan and Oklahoma State, we should handle Miami by 20+ points.

Plano, I think he was talking about Miami, not Texas.

Facts: OSU has won 14 straight over Big12 teams. Haven't lost a home OOC game since 1990 to USC.

If ever there was a time where the 3-4 D would be effective it's this game against Texass. Put in a front 3 rotation of out biggest, quickest linemen along with a zone blitz scheme for 4 LB's, New England style. Have a spy or two..

I got into it with a freshman at Texas the other day and he is clueless what they are in for. He thinks after watching Young tear up Michigan the same will happen at OSU. Funny stuff, I tell ya.

But...Miami is first but I can't see the streak over MAC teams taking a tumble anytime soon.
