BBC interviews wrong man on TV

ibnlive.com
New Delhi: This is one goof-up that will go down the history of live television.

A man who turned up for a job interview for the post of support cleanser at BBC News 24 office found himself being interviewed live on air after a mix-up at reception.

The BBC accepts that the man they interviewed thinking he was the editor of a technology website was actually the wrong guy.

Goma, a graduate from the Congo answered a couple of questions before the anchor hastily wrapped up the interview.

Some reports suggested that Guy Goma was a taxi driver who was called in by mistake when someone shouted the name of his fare, Guy Kewney, in the BBC reception.

While sitting at the reception, Goma was mistaken by a News 24 intern for Kewney, founder of technology website newswireless.net, who had been invited in to discuss the legal battle between Apple Computer and Apple Corp.

However, it later turned out that Goma thought the exercise was part of his interview and did not realise that he would be broadcast live on air.

The mix-up occurred when a producer went to collect the expert from the wrong reception in BBC Television Centre in West London.

Kewney ended up watching the wrong man being interviewed from the reception.
