  • Fine.

    People underestimate Pittman.

Why do you think that is?
I think it's because starry-eyed people idolize highly-promising players like Beanie before they even set foot on the field. You remind me of those who swore up and down before the 2002 season that Zwick would be the starter before the season was half over...same with D'Andrea. We see how that turned out.

Do you think Reggie Bush is going to hold up in the NFL? He's not very big either, and he never carried the ball that much at USC. If NIU had a Lendale White, we wouldn't have had to give Wolfe the ball 25-30 times a game. That takes a toll on anybody.
You're shitting me, right? Bush is 5 inches taller and 25 pounds heavier (6'0", 200 lbs), plus he's much shiftier (how many times did you ever see Bush get hit hard and clean?).

I agree Wells has a higher ceiling, and will learn to block. But I think it's a slap in Pittman's face to say Wells is clearly the best RB for game 1... not for 'careers', not 'after he gets a couple games under his belt'... especially when he's shown he has a lot of work to do in pass pro, after practicing all spring.

Wells has tremendous potential, but he has to become a complete RB before he will be a star under Tressel. Similar to Teddy who has greater potential than Holmes, but was not the better WR.

Poor poor Pittman. I slapped his face.

There is a thread on this site that talks about Pittman's bad hamstring. This bad hamstring kept him from participating in spring ball too didn't it. Does Chris Wells have a bad hamstring? If Pittman has health problems then who do you want to be the starter? Hamstrings injuries tend to linger and if he reinjures it then you can forget him for most of the fall. We are lucky to have Chris Wells.

There is also, I believe, a thread somewhere talking about Pittman's academic status. Does Chris Wells have any academic problems right now?If Pittman becomes academically ineligible then who do you want to be the starter? We are lucky to have Chris Wells.

Given the above issues and the fact that he has a 5 star stud recruit who graduated early, enrolled in college and played spring ball while he didn't, Antonio Pittman had better watch out!

Chris Wells didn't enroll early just so he could sit on the sidelines this fall and watch Tony Pittman get all the carries. Chris Wells has come to play.

Did I mention that we are lucky to have Chris Wells?

Mililani, you just described everyone on this site. If you don't believe me check out the recruiting forum where you have a bunch of dreamers analyzing and debating who the Buckeyes will get and who they won't get.

There are threads where grown men, I'm sure, study and critique and scrutinize 17 and 18 year old kids that they don't even know and have probably never even seen play except for on film that is provided by recruiting websites where these grown men fork over their hard earned money to become a member and then they hang on every last word these sites publish.

You've got a thread where posters offer up their very own top 100 rankings as if they are some type of wannabe expert. Tell me again who has stars in their eyes. These same posters bash sites like rivals and scout for the rankings that they put out because rivals and scout are clueless don't you know. Clueless enough to separate these guys from their money!

Everyone on this site is small time. If we were anything but small time we would have jobs as recruiting coordinators or we'd be head coaches. We'd be getting paid for doing what alot of people on this site do for free.

What are we? We are just private citizens who love to follow college football and love our Buckeyes. When I think of Chris Wells maybe I do get stars in my eyes a little bit. After all, I love the Buckeyes! And haven't the Buckeyes gone without a big power running back long enough?

2003 and 2004 sucked ass if you are a fan that wants to see the Bucks ram their forearms down the opponents throat sideways! 2005 was an awful lot better. Now in 2006 with Pittman back and Chris Wells on the team, it's time to take out some frustrations! What do you say?

Pittman is a Buckeye and I want him to do good. The job is his to lose. 1300 yards is nothing to sneeze at! I'd like to see a situation here like they had at Auburn a couple years ago. Finally, we have the horses to pull it off!

    Go Buckeyes!

Chris Wells can't block. I guess that's your point here. How about this?

We start Chris Wells against NIU. Give him the rock 35 times. Let him rush for 250 yds and 3 or 4 touchdowns. On the other plays where we might need him to block a little bit, we just have Troy Smith show off his exquisite scrambling abilities. Which is what Troy Smith probably wants to do most of the time anyway! I wonder if the Buckeyes could win such a game?

Tell me. Is Chris Wells allowed to practice and improve his blocking between now and then. Is the blocker that Chris Wells is right now going to be the same blocker that Chris Wells is in game 1 or game 8 or in the Bowl Game.

I have a feeling all of your worries about his blocking are gonna just melt away after he gets a couple games under his belt.

Is Chris Wells an intelligent and coachable kid? Is Jim Tressel a good coach capable of molding young talent into the type of player he wants?

I'm not worried about Chris Wells' blocking abilities. I'll even roll the dice right here and now and say that given his size compared to Pittman, not only will he eventually become the better runner but also the better blocker. Time will tell.
