Barry Bonds (Juiced Merge)

I think a 10 game suspension is very acceptable; and I consider it to be fair. Did you watch the at-bat? It was clearly no accident, throw in his previous at bats with bonds and it just gets worse. I'm mostly just sickened by the crowd cheering such actions. What did he do? He threw a ball at someone....

Obviously you don't just suspend anyone who throws inside and such, but when the cases are similiar to Springers, I view it more or less as a hate-crime.

Soooo.... Are you accusing Springer of throwing at Bonds because he's black?

No, I should have worded it differently, the term legally is fairly wide open...
the definition includes any group difference that separates the victim from the offender in the offender's mind. This broad definitional standard undoubtedly introduces much ambiguity in deciding whether or not any particular case fits, but it also allows for inclusion of important cases that might not come up very frequently; for example, attacks on homeless men
In this case, attacks on steriod users.

So in order to prove this, you have to comfirm what the offender was thinking when the crime was committed?
How would anyone ever get convicted of a hate crime?

Maybe the guy just doesn't like Bonds. Maybe Barry touched his pee-pee in the shower when they were kids or banged his girlfriend.

I think it's ironic that people used to pitch around Bonds, but now they throw straight at the douchebag. I've always wanted to be able to witness someone break Aaron's record. However, I'll be damned to acknowledge Bonds having the record, if he does so happen to break Aaron's record.

Personally, I don't think it matters because I think A-Rod will break it by the time he retires, and Pujols isn't that big of a long shot, either.

Give me a break. Bonds deserves all that he gets. He is a cheater, liar, and an egotistical asshole. I would have stood up for Springer if he hit Bonds, and I could care less if Bonds gets hit in the knee and can't play again. He has disgraced the game, and does not desrve to be able to put a uniform on and call himself an athlete.

It's pretty sad watching Bonds do this to himself and the game. Discard the fact that he used anabolic steroids, and try thinking about this. If Bonds wasn't so unfriendly and direct with the media, (saying that they're out to get him because he's black, or if he was white then he wouldn't be treated like this), and was remotely friendly to the press, then he could have possibly been one of the most loved athletes in all of professional sports, due to the fact that he's on a very historical chase, and broke McGwire's single season HR record.

Bonds has tarnished the game of baseball, as well. Fans and players should be savoring and cherishing this unigue and very rare experience of someone chasing the All-Time Home Run Record. Instead, the moment and ride that we've been on alongside Barry Bonds has been nothing but a wreck. He has tarnished the game, and taken out quite a bit of interest in the game for me, individually.

Springer, Garner suspended for throwing at Bonds

NEW YORK -- Houston pitcher Russ Springer was suspended for four games Friday after throwing several times at Barry Bonds and eventually hitting the San Francisco star earlier this week.

Astros manager Phil Garner was suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed amount by Major League Baseball.

The strange sequence Tuesday began when Bonds led off the fifth inning of the Giants' 14-3 win.

Springer's first pitch went behind the seven-time NL MVP's back, drawing a warning from plate umpire Joe West.

The next three pitches all came inside, including one that hit Bonds' bat handle for strike one. On the fifth pitch of the at-bat, Springer hit Bonds in the right shoulder. Springer and Garner were then ejected, and the crowd gave Springer a standing ovation. Bonds took his base without incident.

Bonds has hit 713 home runs, one shy of matching Babe Ruth for second place on the career list. Hank Aaron holds the record of 755, and many people believe Bonds' accomplishments are tainted because of alleged steroids use.

Unless there is an appeal, Springer will begin serving his suspension Friday night when the Astros host the Texas Rangers. If he appeals, the suspension will be held up pending a hearing.

Garner is scheduled to serve his suspension on Monday when Houston plays at Washington.

You could paraphrase this quite well substituting brandishing of firearms for steroid use, crass and racist behavior for Bonds attitude toward the media, yet leaving in all the surliness and ill-tempered selfishness, and arrive at ...

A portrait of the Georgia Peach.

Who is in the Hall of Fame.

Upon further consideration: I think most in the media are making a party out of taking a great big steaming dump on Bond's head. And they are loving it, and they have whipped up the fans into a froth over this whole thing.

In all likelihood Bonds will not make it to the Hall of Fame and that would be grossly unjust.

Oh yes, in the interests of full disclosure, I didn't like Bonds while he was in da Burg, and certainly didn't like him when he went to the left coast, stranding the penny-poor Pirates. But I have to respect what he has done on the field of play.
That's a position I hold no matter whether he, along with countless others in the late nineties, tried to enhance their game by chemical means. If he did use, then he certainly came on stronger than any others in that period. Many other players did not show such an improved game. If it is not true that he used then he is being doubly damned, and damned simply because he comes across as a self-centered ass. In which case the Baseball writers should refer to the Georgia Peach as exhibit number one of how one should look past a mans flaws off the field, and vote Bonds in solely because he has been, in the years before and after he was suspected of using 'roids, the dominant offensive player of this era.

I fully believe that there will be some sort of "Steroid Wing" to the Hall of Fame, and Bonds will be in that, along with McGwire, Sosa, etc. The players from the mid-late 90's will be in somewhere, but they will not be in direct contrast to the older players, in my opinion.
