Bama's Defense for spread teams

Listen sir, the way things will playout on the field will look just like the way that I say that they will, I only give you credit for calling it a 3-4 defense because ON PAPER ONLY, it is that because that is what Saban calls it... but to the eyes, it looks like a traditional 4 man line with the presence of a big linebacker that does nothing but rush.

You must truly be some writer that covers teams to be trying to prove a couch analyst wrong on a internet forum this bad...lol

I will never breakdown EVERY down, distance and situation sir, just giving the Buckeye fans something interesting to watch for like I said earlier.

Being in the state of Alabama,, I just catch most games that these teams play,, that is all :)

Whether you watch most of the games isn't something I can't question. Whether you understand what you're seeing is something I can answer.

I'm a huge fan of hearing others opinions on key areas to watch during ball games. That's what makes the participation on collegiate football forums fun.

When fans of rival schools join and participate on forums for games like this one, and those rival fans attempt to schematically break down tendencies but get those wrong, what reaction would you expect from a fan of a team that's actually playing in the game?

But - to tie it back into the statement I was quoting - to throw out the "no talent. It's not even debatable" line is utter horse[Mark May] on an ESECSECSECPN level.

I've no disagreement here (well, except for this ESECSECSECPN...)

There are always game results that make no sense. Taking Wisconsin, who held a good LSU running game to around 125 yards for the game, and then allowed Elliot to gain what he did in the B1GCG?

Heck, look at that A&M team that put up close to 700 yards of offense on UofSC, but couldn't break 175 against Bama. What sense does that make?

The Gamecocks defense isn't that bad. The Badgers defense isn't that bad.

It'll be interesting to see how Wisky handles the Auburn rushing attack on the 1st, but considering the coaching changes I can't see that game giving any answer for the game our teams play a few hours later. I've seldom found one game as an accurate capsule on how another game will play out.

Actually, if you look at objective measures, South Carolina is that bad. Massey has Wisconsin at #19 and South Carolina at #54 on defense. South Carolina would rank #9 on defense in the Big Ten, according to Massey, and 6th according to Bassett. The computers factor in the relative SOS issues, which I find to be a much more accurate predictor of outcomes than raw NCAA stats.

Wisconsin was thought to be pretty effective against the run, but Ohio State exposed something. I think both games will be tight, but I like the B1G chances in both games.

You bring up a point here that's been mentioned frequently in some of the Tide fan circles—LSU vs Wisconsin. There's some skepticism on what Wisky really does have on defense when they allowed LSU to overcome a three touchdown deficit to win that game. That's an LSU team opening the season with an inexperienced quarterback, a very inept passing game, and an offense that ranked near the bottom of the NCAA in total offense.

Seeing 59-0 against Wisky is comparable to seeing 59-0 against A&M. What is it really saying?

One could look at Michigan, a team near the bottom of the NCAA in total offense as well, and wonder "is the OSU defense really that good?" But, it's Michigan.

On the flip side, the same can be said with the Bama vs LSU game.

I'm not one that says, "throw the record books out the window." The vast majority of the time that doesn't hold to be true. Now, if it's said, "throw the stats out the window;" I'm all behind that.

There's a different level of competition when it comes to games like Michigan vs OSU; just like there's a different level when it comes to LSU vs Bama.
If I remember right Wisconsin really had trouble with injuries that game. Lost 2-3 defensive lineman for the game and eventually wore down late and of course lost Melvin Gordon early in the 3rd. I'm not shocked they blew it with those injuries and IMO if they have their full complement they win that game.

Melvin Gordon is one of the eight (8) 4* athletes that Wisconsin has signed over the last 3 years. He is pretty talented. Top to bottom Wisconsin is probably a little more talented than Vandy.

:slappy:

Sure thing....So that means 3-9 IU is more talented than SECSECSEC East Champ Mizzouri because we have an on-field result to prove it. You don't have anything but the usual ESECPN conjecture.

Not going to defend an LSU win over a Big 10 division champ. That's just a dumb argument to have.

I don't think Mizzou is that talented no. They have 2 good defensive ends and a bit of a play maker at QB. They totally dropped the ball on that game. I did not watch it so IDK WTF really happened. Isn't IU the team that gave OSU a little trouble?

Let's look at how many players Vanderbilt puts into the league and how many Wisconsin does and then talk about talent levels. Sheesh!

Ok, I looked it up. Due largely to James Franklin Vandy signed seven 4* guys over the past 3 years. I don't know how many are still there. Mizzou signed eight 4* guys over the same period.

Coaches can coach up lesser talent and higher rated players can be busts, but in general having better talent makes a difference. Eddie Lacy lamented on the bench for most of his career at UA, but now he is one of the best RBs in the NFL. Maybe he's just fresher? IDK. Johnny Manziel is not far from an NFL bust as a first round pick and heisman winner. Production at the NFL level and at the collegiate level is not an apples to apples comparison IMO. You should look up how many players those teams put into the NFL if you think it is a valid comparison. I'm not going to do it for you. You look it up. Start with Jay Cutler.
