Most folks (outside of the eastern seaboard) don't see the immense issues at hand over this
This route is THE most used route on I95 bypassing Balt on the SE side. Huge ramifications. Gazillion vehicles. and here comes vaca season.
It's also the route used by monster trucks for goods and especially Bio-Haz.. not uncommon to see escorted over-sized vehicles.
No way does this go 10 yrs for a rebuild... has to be done in record time.. under 2 yrs? 1?
Minimally they'll clear out the wreckage and create a barge system to navigate... but the commuter and vacationer traffic are screwed
To get to the southern beaches, it could mean you travel W to central PA (addl 2-3 hrs) then head south and link up into Richmond...
IF bad actors wanted to cripple things, THIS could be THE most critical bridge from Boston/NY/Phila to Atlanta...

Even with it, I95 around Baltimore and (i think 295 to DC) were routinely traffic clusterfucks. Can’t imagine what this will do.

It will be done in 2 years. ODOT added a Valley View bridge and rebuilt the original 2 in 5 years. In a situation like this they'll bust their ass getting the new bridge built bigger, better, and more resistant to ship damage than ever.

I’m going to put on my tin foil hat on here and suggest that maybe that article was written to help justify increased spending on the rebuild so that it gets done as quick as possible. If people gripe, then they’d cite the 10 year narrative and hope that people will accept it.
