Balt -3.5 at Pitt (ov/un 40.5) Sun 8:30 NBC

I watch very little professional football, but.....
With your defense on the field and needing the ball back, a coach who takes a timeout at 2:04 should be fired on the spot. No questions asked.

If the bottom 2/3rds of the AFC didn't suck, Shitzburgh would be in jeopardy of missing the playoffs entirely.

But since the only team other than Pitt/Bal/NE/Denver/Indy/Houston at .500 or above is Cincinnati, well, they'll probably get in unless the offense completely collapses.

Not sure about that. The thinking is the next play is stopped by the two minute warning (acting like another TO since they only had 1 left). But that was negated by a defensive penalty. And I am in no way a steelers fan, but it was a decent call.

Obviously, I underestimated Byron's suckage last night.

He looked like he got hurt, too. Whatever the case, he was heaving some wounded ducks on that last possession. Pittsburgh better hope Ben recovers soon.

It's risk vs. reward. It makes no difference if the offensive team runs the ball. But if they pass the ball or there is a penalty (which is exactly what happened in this case), they just lost a timeout. Think about it, you let the clock run to two minutes and the clock stops anyway, and you still have the timeout in your pocket. So, if they run the ball or complete a short pass, you take your last timeout at 1:54. Risk = 6 seconds. If the team throws the ball incomplete, (or runs the ball and goes out of bounds) then the clock stops at 1:54. Reward = keeping the timeout (which is huge!). It's an absolute no brainer and I see coaches taking that timeout right before the two minute warning all the time. You'd think someone would have explained this to them years ago.
