I think a lot of these issues are related to it being a brand new year. I'm seeing mostly blank ad spaces, and what does come through doesn't generally seem "normal". So I'm hoping it's all going to sort out. I sent an email to USA Today about the oversized ads, should be able to sort that out.

Not at all, you should be able to use any browser you please. It's early new year stuff. Contracts end, new campaigns have to be put in place. So we've had some less than ideal stuff passing through. Hopefully it's all working itself out, though I'm still seeing mostly blank ads myself. Hope to hear from USA Today this week about all of it.

This is all fixed. We had some 600x300 ads coming through the 250x300 position. Shouldn't happen anymore.

I don't know what you mean by it downloaded to your computer, but yes, don't interact with anything questionable.

It's been a while since I nuked all mobile ad campaigns through one of our secondary providers. I'll go do that right now.

If you see anything like that again after, say, tomorrow morning -- please let me know.

All set with the campaign nukes. Will take a few hours to clear through their ad servers. Hopefully that resolves the aforementioned nonsense. Sorry about any annoyances.

I went to the best jokes thread and as soon as the page loaded a file quickly downloaded without by consent. It went so fast I didn't have a chance to stop the download. I moved the file to the trash, so I don't think anything actually happened with it.

No, nothing would. That's just very strange behavior. Unless another website was opened somehow, it could have just been an innocuous event resulting from something having the wrong typing set by some advertiser. Of course it's also always possible that baddies slipped something into a third party system somewhere. So how you dealt with it was the best bet either way.
