Backing Up Backed Up Movies?

Lazlo

Good people drink good beer. ~ HST
I figured I would be able to just copy these straight from the disc instead of having to use program like DVD Shrink to encode them, but Nero went through the process and then errored on me twice at the end. Is there a way around having to encode again without keeping the actual VOB files on your computer or do I need to just stfu and have some patience?

OK, if some of this is redundant, forgive me - but here is a working process flow from commercial DVD you own.

  • Make De-Encrypted version (AnyDVD or DVD Decrypter) - yielding the .VOB files and Video_TS folders)
  • Make an appropriately sized .iso file from the .VOB files, best choice remains DVDShrink if you wish to do this kind of work - so you can make the backed-up movie on DVD (say 4.3 GB - Single-Layer, or larger for Dual Layer)
  • Burn the .iso file with Nero onto Disk, next step assumes you erase the .iso file from your HD.
  • If you want to make a later back-up of this back-up then create your .iso file from the existing back-up. Burn new disk from the .iso file
Step 1 is slow, step 2 is the slowest, but steps 3 and 4 are relatively quick and painless.

All the above flies out the window if you are following similar steps and then getting specific errors - so is Nero reporting a specific form of difficulty or throwing up a recurring error message?
