Big Ten Coaches Talk Anonymously About Conference Foes for 2021

Ohio State

"They’re scary. They’re scary in every phase, they’re scary situationally, they’re scary in warmups. I don’t think anyone is close to their level of talent and execution in this league, and that’s because they’re really competing with themselves at this point, at least in terms of the conference. They’re competing against Clemson and Alabama and developing NFL guys, it’s just a different culture than the more popular approaches in this league. They’re so much bigger than the region."

"The defensive scheme is a nightmare. It puts you in binds and forces you to make bad decisions, but it’s the personnel doing it. They’re not chess matching you on defense because they don’t have to. The defensive front controls their entire game. It lets the secondary get simple and fly around and be killers."

"Offensively they’re not doing the newest or sharpest thing because they don’t have to. You have a pretty good idea what they’re going to do to you, they’re just going to do it with better players and usually a quarterback that can out and out change the game."

"It’s gonna be a lot of [running back] Master Teague we’re guessing, at least until they feel good about the next man up at QB. I don’t think they’ve got anyone right now that can do all the things Justin [Fields] could, though."

"Defensively they learned a hard lesson against Bama, but that’s the level of opponent it takes to break their system. The secondary was bad in the title game because the front could set that tone. That’s their weakness, I guess. The problem is there are only three or four teams in the country that can expose it and none of them play in this league.”

This part of the quote makes me think it's somebody that's facing the Buckeyes early in the season. Perhaps P.J., but this guy comes off a bit more like a good old boy to me

The Big Ten, Pac-12 and ACC are expected to make a formal announcement of their alignment “soon,” according to a report Friday by The Athletic. The announcement could come as early as next week, according to the report.

This is an update that has been expected to come for some time now. Last Friday, the initial report surfaced that the three conferences were engaging in “high-level discussions” about creating this alliance. The move came after Texas and Oklahoma made the decision to leave the Big 12 and join the SEC after the conclusion of the Big 12’s grant of rights.

Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff, Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren and ACC commissioner Jim Phillips have been reportedly having conversations for several weeks now. The alliance would focus not only on football but also on broader cooperation such as voting together on new developments such as College Football Playoff expansion and upcoming NCAA governance changes, per The Athletic.

It does not appear that the Big 12 would be involved in the alliance, according to the report. ESPN host Paul Finebaum said recently that Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby — not Texas, OU, or the SEC — is the one to blame for the Longhorns and Sooners leaving.

Re: The alliance would focus not only on football but also on broader cooperation such as voting together on new developments such as College Football Playoff expansion and upcoming NCAA governance changes, per The Athletic.

Just sayin': The alliance should say "screw you SEC" and prohibit more than 2 teams from any conference in the CFPs.

I'm pretty sure the arabic numeral for "one" looks like this: 1

I also wonder why you added the 's' on to the end of the word "team".

I was commenting on the proposed expansion to a 12 team playoff. Yeah, under the current 4 team format each conference should be limited to 1 team. Each conference has already decided who their best team is in the CCG and/or head to head competition within each division.

Yeah, it should be the champions of the Power 4 Conferences, period. Conference Championship Games make it an 8 team playoff.

I agree, but the problem would be defending another lawsuit by the "Gang of Five" Conferences wanting a chance to play in the CFPs (and getting a share of the playoff money, etc.). I'm not sure that just a guaranteed spot in a New Years Day 6 Bowl would satisfy them.

If the NCAA limits the top division in football, whatever it’s called, to the Power 4 conference members, then they can file any lawsuit they want. They can also watch it get dismissed in a summary judgement with prejudice.
