B1G Expansion Poll - Oklahoma

Is Oklahoma a worth addition for The B1G?

  • Total voters
    68
  • Poll closed .
My "ideal 4:"

Tejas
North Carolina
Florida (hey, a man can dream)
UVA

On the Bubble:
Duke (but only if UNC said no)
Syracuse
Rutgers

These schools would expand our media footprint immensely and to high-value areas, and they're all first-class research universities.

If Notre Dame came crawling in offering free BJs, I might also consider them. Or I might wait till the happy ending before telling 'em to fuck off.

Mizzou and Kansas would fit in fine with the BigTen....both are AAU schools

OK and OKST.....about on a par with Nebraska but not awful

Mizzou and Kansas would be an intersting combination....they could continue to be huge rivals (bigger than KSU vs KU) and Nebraska would have Iowa as its new natural rival

Can't remember who it was (one of the CFB journalists out there) tweeted on Saturday that OK, OKSt, Mizzou, and Kansas approached the B1G as a group, and the B1G turned them down for academic reasons.

OU is one yahoo report away from being the next domino to fall... Their basketball team is likely to get the death penalty because it just reporting major NCAA violations while ON PROBATION.... the football team isn't much better with Stoops and his "well i didn't know that was going on" attitude... Let's not try to detach them from UTs dick... they seem to be happy there

Yeah, I don't believe the tweet about those schools approaching the B1G and being flat out denied because of academics. There would Have to be some consideration on the part of the conference, and it would have been more widely leaked.

Folks there are already existing B1G expansion threads for what people think the conference will/should do in regards to other programs.

Let's try to keep this one focused on a thumbs up or down for Oklahoma.

I think Oklahoma would be a great addition...

I've long been of the 'hell no' opinion regarding the Okies but I've come around a little bit.

I could see an offer with preset conditions...no OK St, a strong pledge from the school to grow the academic side of the house and withholding membership from the CIC until set milestones are met etc

On the other hand I'm still leery of the seemingly endless stream of violations.

I really think that it would be a foolish mistake to not, at least, consider them. From what I heard, there is an effort there to improve academics, and perhaps they could be enticed to accept some demands in that regard.

Oklahoma brings a lot of baggage, just like Texas, but they are up to par athletically with B1G. Academically they are bit behind, but that can be improved. I wouldn't mind seeing them in the B1G just because it is another nationally known top tier program.

If i had to choose the 4 to add it would be:
Texas
Boston College
Notre Dame
Vandy

I really like the idea of Georgia Tech to get a bit further South, but i think Vandy trumps them overall.

Oklahoma quite a distance from the other Big Ten teams. It may not seem that big of a deal, but that is a significant rise of transportation costs for all conference-play sports teams. I am not in much favor of the Big Ten expanding again anyway, and to me the Big Ten does not provide much of a "pull" situation for Oklahoma. The only way I'd see them coming to the Big Ten is if the Big 12 collapses.

They are closer than Texas, who everyone was drooling over until we found out what a primadonna she is. As for the Big 12 collapsing - the writing is on the wall, my friend.
